Woofda…I didn’t think she’d be found guilty on both charges. The sentencing process should be interesting to follow as well.

I see BLM says they are planning a protest – No matter the outcome. If she is found guilty – What reason is there to protest. I just don’t get it. As long as the protest stays just that, and doesn’t turn into a Riot like some have, I guess I really don’t care if they protest or not.

Yep. The ramifications and precedence set today paint an ugly future for all law enforcement and the well being of our country for decades or more to come.

If shitbags quit breaking the law it would be great, but unfortunately it’s only get to get worse from here on out.

Apparently there must be a HUGE difference in feel between a Taser & a gun. Hell of a verdict right before Christmas. I’ll assume these folks made the right decision because they were in the room and we weren’t.

Sad but true. I really dont think jurors understand the grounds for guilty verdicts on various levels of charges. She should have never even been charged with 1st degree.

Maybe im wrong and i am alot but doesnt 1st degree mean you intended or planned to kill someone. She screwed up but no way she got out of bed that day and decided to go kill someone.

Sounds like they reached guilty on 2nd degree on Tuesday, but 1st degree was 1140 today. Brooklyn Center is going to have a hefty lawsuit to settle now too.

Unbelievable. If I was a officer now days I wouldn’t even carry a gun and if there was any confrontation I would say fukk it and just walk away.

That’s what I thought and if true the guilty verdict is flat out wrong on the 1st degree…

    Sets a precedent going forward

This is equal to the Officer Noor case who accidently shot and killed that lady who called 911 and after went outside in the dark alley.

“Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Amy Sweasy, meanwhile, asked Quaintance to give Noor the longest possible sentence. She said the case “is worse than typical” because of who Noor is. “The most serious sentence this court can impose is required,” she said.”

Because of who Potter is so should the sentence be also…right?^^

Not the same he shot an innocent women wo did nothing but call the police. Potter shot a career thug with outstanding warrants trying to flee the police.

What you describe would be considered murder. Manslaughter is non-intentional/not premeditated.

At least according to the Holiday Inn Express I stayed in last night.

Neither charge required prosecutors to prove Potter intended to kill Wright, and they pointed that out to the jury during opening statements.

2nd degree manslaughter – caused death by negligence.

1st degree manslaughter – caused death by recklessness.

If there are cops on this forum, come to Bismarck, North Dakota! We love our officers here! They had a booth set up at a town fair this summer with kids getting pictures with officers. Wouldn’t see that in MN…

Trust me, there is nothing different in North Dakota than Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Cuba, China, England, Turkey,Iran, Saudia Arabia………..

I don’t understand he question. My comment was solely about the legal definitions for degree of manslaughter.

The link I provided showed the exact wording for 1st degree manslaughter for the state of MN and I dont see the term you used referenced there at all.

Ugh… couple comments. One, why in the world did they hold a trial of this stature right before Christmas? Of course the jury was rushed today to come up with a decision so they could get the hell out of there and get home for Christmas Eve. So if there were any jurors on the fence, they might have just said whatever and went with the consensus.

Second thing, what is this harsh of a sentence intended to do? Help future police officers not make a human mistake? What? This was a human mistake and not intentional. This isn’t like the Floyd case where the verdict was meant to say to future police officers, hey, don’t hold someone to the point of death.

In the Noor case, I could see a harsher sentence just for the fact that you shouldn’t be shooting in the direction of your fellow officer. But for this? This was a tragic human mistake. Yes, hopefully an outcome out of this is for taser manufacturers to make their triggering mechanism different from a gun, but you shouldn’t penalize Potter in order to make this happen.

Just like the Floyd jury panel, the jury was probably fearful of the riots if they DIDN’T convict on all counts. And that should NEVER be the basis of a jury’s decision.

I am tired of thugs being memorialized and celebrated. Over it. She deserved the one charge but not both.

I live in the burbs of the cities and the cops hand out free hotdogs, chips and soda multiple times a summer – I think they own their own food truck. They also stop my kids and write “tickets” for free ice cream if they are wearing a helmet.

it would be interesting to see how many current students in police academies or schools studying in that field not showing up for there next class after all this.
