Kicker options

After selling my small 14 foot boat this spring I am left with the out bard I had for that boat, a 15 HP short shafts evinrude. I’ve been mulling over the idea of hanging onto it for a kicker on my lund pro sport. Now this would be something o would use maybe once or twice a year only in select situations where I’d spend a lot of time trolling (like say handlining on the river in the spring). Definately not something I’d use enough to justify throwing much money at it. Now I have tried hanging it off the back of my boat and being it’s a short shaft, only about half the propeller would be below the transom of the boat. So first question, is that enough ‘clearance’ that ot would really do any good? Control/turning not a big concern as I’ll use the bow troller for that. Second question, is there anything relatively cheap and preferably not permanent I can add to help get it further ‘under’ the transom?
Thanks for any advice you guys have, like I mentioned it’s not something I think I’ll have enough use for to justify putting much money into it, and a mid 1970’s ‘rude hung off the back next to a black merc 4stroke definately isn’t going to win any style points (not that I really care) but would be nice to get a new use out of setting I already have and give me another tool to use in the right situation.

Upon closer inspection the prop is a little ‘lower’ than I thought.

I apologize for all the above misspellings, my fingers and this phone keypad don’t get along so well.

With a evinrude, iam almost positive you can put a spacer and longer drive shaft on to give you the lenght you need. DK.

You would be fine. You would just have to have a gas tank with for the mixed gas. Panther makes a plate you can mount on the back to raise and lower the motor too.

I remembered that sitting in the boat last night thinking it over, think I’ll pick up one of those smaller 2 gallon (or something like that) tanks that I can easily remove when not using it, the 6 gal tank I have is way more than I’ll need and takes up more room than I want.

I took a look at some lifts like the panther, I like the idea of adding the power tilt option, little more expensive than I want to pump into this idea though till I know it’s something I will use enough, there were some manual ones much cheaper that had potential too. Guess i will have the winter to ponder on it.

you can add the spacer but my kicker is in similar location as yours in the picture and you will be fine!

Remember the boat sits lower in the water when off plane. The prop can be higher than the botom of the boat and still work fine. It just needs to be in the water. I have the 25″ shaft 9.9 yamaha on my big Skeeter and the prop still doesn’t totally clear the bottom of the boat. Most use std. 20″ shaft kickers and they work fine.

Thanks guys. Think I’m going to try amd come up with a handle extention/shifter handle to fab up over winter and give it a try. I think if it works out and I use it enough I might drop some coin on one of those motor brackets with trim and tilt built in.

For the guys using kickers without power trim, do you do anything special to make sure the motor doesn’t drop while you cruising?

I’ve seen guys use a ratchet strap to keep it secured in the up position.
