Im still looking for a kicker motor. Looking at used ones. Some have recommended using a tiller style. Anyone with a tiller style kicker on a Lund Impact? I have the 1875. Issues with tiller handle in the way of the jump seats?? Thanks

Just use a kicker for propulsion and steer with your bow mount trolling motor. the kicker handle can just tip up out of the way. You have to obviously control the speed and gear at the motor, but that gives you the freedom to move around and steering with the kicker in the wind is not easy with the lund because they sit so high and the front will get blown around. An 8-10hp will have plenty of power.

Thx. Thought about using a tie arm to big motor?? Is a 15hp too much for the 1875 impact? Have seen a couple nice used tillers.

15hp isn’t too much for it, just overkill. The if the 15hp is fuel injected that would be nice, and I wish I had a FI kicker motor. My 9.9 is so cold blooded when the temps are below 50F. My kicker is also tied to the main motor, but as I said I steer using my bow mount. You can steer with just the kicker, but it is slow to react if your trying to stay on a steep break line, and as I said in the wind it is worse.

A 9.9 prokicker is available in EFI as well from Merc, but only for the last few years. If that’s a deal breaker pay attention to what you’re looking at.

I have an 11 year old carbed 4 stroke Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker that I bought new and it’s always been really, really good for me. I’ve honestly never had any problems with it at all and it’s trolled many hours in it’s lifetime. Sure EFI would be great but I certainly wouldn’t say never buy one without EFI.
If I ever bought a new Pro Kicker, I’d definitely get an EFI model but mine has worked and still does work so well, I’ve never been able to justify buying a new kicker just to get EFI.

Tiller motor works great as others have stated. The link above has new ones cheaper than anywhere I have found. I purchased mine from them and had it within 2 days. I know others on here have also purchased from them after my referral. Tiller is super easy to hang yourself.

My last kicker was a carbed unit and it was bullet proof. Always started and always ran. I agree with elec trim and start for sure. I would prefer efi also but those are probably 1k more in price without the cables etc which run close to another 1k. Vs tiller model that is. I found a dealer with a new 9.9 merc. Elec trim and and start but carb’d. Tiller model. Wants $2700
