Kicker bracket silencer

Threw the bracket that goes from main motor to kicker and works great but now it has an ungodly loud rattle to it. Like to be as ninja as possible on the water and thing sounds like a box of steel rattles when I start puttin along. Can’t think of a way to silence it.

The little play in the head recivers that allow movement is the cause, do you tighten that up so it’s not loose? I’m afraid I’d loose some flexibility in the system if so. Almost needs a rubber material lining the male/female recievers but how to make that happen?

Was thinking possibly line it with liquid electrical tape, might not last forever but should quiet er down?

Does it rattle when you lay a finger on it? If that stops it is there room to zip tie a wheel weight or some other weight? Might be all it needs to stop the vibrating.

Hm, that’s a good idea. I’ll check that next time out.

Are you talking about the steering arm? Similar to your liquid tape idea, I put a little silicone in the sockets on mine and haven’t had rattles for years.

    How did you apply it?

Stretch a bungee cord between the posts, and put a little pre-load on it?

Agree, a bungee hooked to the end posts or bracket (and looped around the connecting rod) on it’s way to the hooking the other end.

Another very simple fix/improvement that I used was to take a strip of velcro tape and wrap it around the ball joint of the steering arm. Other tape would probably work as well but wrapping it in velcro tape allows me to re-tighten it as it loosens over time.

Just squirt some in the socket and install it onto the ball. Let it setup overnight. Should be good for a while. The silicone will keep everything from rattling yet flex and move when needed.

All good stuff fellas, thanks much.

Will try that silicone here before gets to cold for application.

In my application, the arm never comes off. I put a bit of sealant in each socket and snapped it on. Just out of curiosity, I did try to take it off once and it came off with no problem. The silicone basically filled all the voids between the ball and socket.

Used some tile caulk out of convenience and still sounded awful after about 30min. Used 100% silicone and she’s all quiet now. woot

Yeah, that tile stuff is made of latex and doesn’t have the durability of pure silicone. Glad it worked out for ya!
