Keeping Boat/Wading Shoes From Stinking

A while back I started a wading shoe thread and ended up with a pair of UA Kilches.

People spoke in that thread of them getting stinky and some offered tips to keep them from stinking. Here is mine.

I found wading in a retention pond will stink shoes up fast. First put laundry detergent on top of your feet and slip them back in the shoes. Don’t use other detergent or soap, as I assume laundry detergent is the kindest to fabric. Now spray them with a little water from the garden hose and move your feet around in the shoes and step in place. Repeat this several times. You see suds as you do this as it forces water through the fabric. Then take the shoes off and spray from the inside out under high pressure until the suds from the residue disappear. Figure out what angle the water drains out the fastest be moving the shoe around upside down. Place them in the sun at that angle. If you have a dryer that comes with a drying rack, even better. The faster they dry the better, because you don’t allow any bacteria left over to multiply.

This technique is really only going to work with shoes designed to drain like boat or wading shoes.

    You can thank me later.

Popping them in the freezer after a fresh water rinse will work as well… spent some time with a professional triathlete and they do it their wet suits as often as possible… all about the bacteria.

Put some baby powder on them and put in the sun.
