Just saw a little mention in the most recent issue of Outdoor News reminding ice anglers not to leave trash on the ice, adding that it does nothing to improve the image of ice fisherman. Thought it was a good message so wanted to carry it over to here. No doubt that at some point we’ll see a post with ice trash mentioned and maybe even a picture, so now that we’re in the early part of the season let’s do what we can to have a better ice season. I realize if lots of you/us are already doing the right thing but hey, maybe there’s hope that someone can be changed!

There is no reason to leave trash on the ice. None, zip, nada, zero. You hauled the stuff out there, haul it home.
BTW, if you see some pig leaving stuff behind whip your phone out and get a picture of their license plate then the junk left behind then call local law enforcement.

December 15, 2017 at 6:42 pm #1735977Chew can be disposed of in a bottle that you take with. I got no problem leaving seeds on the ice, that ain’t gonna hurt nothing.

What about urinating? When spending weekends, you can’t expect wheelhousers to bottle up all weekend. I mean I dispose #2 bags responsibly. What are the expectations for #1’s? I don’t pi$$ on my living room floor. You can’t tell me you guys don’t take a wiz now and then. What’s the difference between chew spit and pee?
billy03z71Posts: 130December 15, 2017 at 9:17 pm #1735994Really don’t leave a dip on the ice? Don’t think it’s gunna hurt anything…

Dip is the grossest damn thing on the planet. Don’t be a slob.
billy03z71Posts: 130December 15, 2017 at 9:51 pm #1736003Well I’ve always picked up anything I brought out with me on the ice and even other people’s garbage, didn’t think dip was a big deal since it dizovles into nothing pratically but now I see differntaly. I think seeing people’s poop on the ice is a little more of the grosset thing in the planet but maby not

What are the expectations for #1’s? #1’s have expectations? “I don’t pi$$ on my living room floor.” You so funny drifter…
Here’s what I do in say a 6 hole sleeper house, minimum 3 holes for fishing, 1 hole to set the cooler of food and beer into (between the ice and the floor, does not freeze, stays cool), another hole for the camera, and the last hole is the dedicated “#1” hole. Most of the time that one gets used the most in relation to how many times I reach down into the “cooler” hole for more beer.
No worries though…your little dribble into the lake will test out at one part per gazillion. But between you and me, ssshhhhh…this shall be our little secret.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348December 15, 2017 at 10:16 pm #1736009Guess I’m a lil shocked people give a rats butt about chew, pee, seeds, etc. As long as it’s disposable who cares.
Same guys who want nice clean bloodless fillets perhaps? Icky blood, icky chew, icky yellow snow, this whole fishing thing is really icky.
milemark_714Posts: 1285December 15, 2017 at 10:24 pm #1736010I think the worst I have seen,is someone crapped their white waffle long johns and stuffed them in an ice hole.It looked like they were cut off, finished the job and waffle stomped down the hole.
Last winter I found 3 ION blade guards, these must be something that does not stay on well?
December 16, 2017 at 11:53 am #1736062Especially cig butts, that stuff is disgusting. I always bring a garbage bag. No reason to leave trash on the ice. That ends up in the lake.

As the drinks started flowing I could see myself accidently reaching into the urine hole looking for a beer lol
December 16, 2017 at 7:02 pm #1736116Funny, i was actually thinking about seeds and chew. They dont look great, but at least it’s not pollution. I don’t leave anything but pee and minnow parts.
tim hurleyPosts: 5795December 16, 2017 at 8:35 pm #1736142Nice appeal Dan but you are only targeting the ice fisherman who read.
Kidding aside people who read this forum are not the litter bugs. Just got back from a lake that had a whole case box of Bud Light with several empty cans and misc. trash.December 16, 2017 at 9:49 pm #1736159If I see garbage left behind it gets on my nerves and I will let em have it if I catch them. Probably a different world in the metro with all the citiots. Occasionally I find butts and I see no reason these lazy bums can’t throw their butts in a bottle. Lazy careless bums!

Us Bud folk are typically responsible individuals.

I’ll comment on that because I am a smoker, nothing I’m glad to admit but it is what it is. That being confessed, whether I’m in the boat or on the ice I always keep an empty bottle to dispose of my butts.
I’m not sure what piece of society would still do that? I don’t know, the early part of my life that was the norm, throwing any and all kinds of trash out car windows, over the side of the boat…everything! Yet I, and I think most of us from my generation have learned to be more respectful and responsible for not trashing the world we live in.
I wonder if it’s “Lazy careless bums” that you think, or there is a collection of people out there that are just miserable and angry about anything and rhetorically speaking just want to defecate on the places that give them their isolation?
Plenty out there with mixed up minds…December 16, 2017 at 10:56 pm #1736182Honestly I think it is the millennial generation. Everything is automated for them, they appreciate less than other generations before them because they are soft. I know because I work with them. I ride them all the time but they don’t care. Surely it’s not every millennial but it’s enough to narrow them down. I am concerned because my 10 year old will be relying on them for a better life….fingers crossed!

Sorry, but trash on the ice has been around long before the Millenials.
December 17, 2017 at 2:13 pm #1736296Thats correct. Back in the day of all skid houses the shorelines would be littered with blocking that was frozen down when houses were pulled. Thats in addition to all the garbage and beer bottles and later cans.
We can blame the kids for a lot of stuff but not this.
