I have a fly swatter in my boat too. Bought it from Sheels. It has a fishing pole handle on it. First fly I tried to swat the swatter came off the rod. Another use for duct tape. I need another one. Constantly fighting my fishing partners for it. I’m not wearing long pants when its over 80 degrees.

I use the battery operated Ryobi fan set on high and pointed at my ankles. Keep you cool and keeps most all bugs away.

These are on sale at Home Depot right now. I also use the clip on ones to mount on things to blow higher up. Use these at home, too. These totally change the game when dealing with bugs. No more stagnant nights fighting them.

    Another use for duct tape.

On Rainy Lake 10+ years ago at the end of July. Ankle biters were nasty and I had had enough. Took out the duct tape from my dry box and wrapped both my ankles with the sticky side out. Instant fly paper. Problem solved. lol

The only thing I’ve found to work is Lava soap. I’ve always have a bar in the boat to keep human scent/gas/oil etc.. down on the hands. Just lather the heck out of your ankles and lower legs with the bar of soap and lake water. Helps to re apply about every hour. It drys quickly and looks weird, but works great. Plus your not spraying chemicals on your boat and person.

I have heard Lemon Joy works. I just haven’t needed to give it a try in recent years.

Lemon Joy diluted in water in a spray bottle works but you need to reapply about every 45 minutes.

About 5 years ago someone told me to use go-jo wipes. Use the wipe, lasts about an hour. Dip in the water and re-apply. Keeps them away.

    Good evening to all-
Here on the Gulf Coast we sometimes have bad infestations of biting bugs on the water.
A lot of us use Skin So Soft- seems to help, Although if you come home from a fishing trip smelling like you’ve been visiting some ladies of negotiable affection from the smell lingering on you, it might take some explaining- just sayin’
Actually, I fish with a buddy and the bugs- no matter what kind- just eat him up, but they leave me alone. Don’t know why, but he’s a biting bug magnet. Lets me spend my time casting and not swatting, so I like fishing with him.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed
