With a built-in transducer on a trolling motor that can make a pretty big difference in the real depth compared to what your transducer is reading. Anybody use the adjustment on your chart plotter to try to make it closer to right?

Some folks like the depth reading to be from the top of the water (actual depth).
other folks like the depth reading to be from the lowest point of the boat/boat motor (clearance depth). So if the depth reading is 6 inches you know your motor is 6 inches above bottom.
Entirely your choice where to set the depth compensation and what constitutes “zero depth”.

I just operate knowing my ducer is 10 inches or a foot below the surface. Otherwise where do you 0 at ? If my bow mount reads 6 I know I’m in 7

My transducer is about 2 feet below the water, that’s a lot when fishing in 6-8 feet of water. Yes, it’s easy to do.
