I’ve finally decided to pull the string and get a new Krill setup for this ice season. I know this subject probably has been discussed more than once on here, But I just want to make sure I get the best drill for the job. From all the research I’ve done it seems like the Milwaukee 2703 is the drill of choice the most often. I’m looking at getting the 2703-22 Kit ( hopefully someplace on sale on Black Friday ) This Kit comes with the drill and 2 XC5.0 batteries and the charger. I’m not sure if the XC5.0 is the most powerful batteries you can get for it, But they look like the best ones than I can find that come in a kit. Before I bit the bullet and purchase it, Is there anything else others are using with their Kdrill that they believe may work better or as well for less $. The timing on the purchase could not be any better, as my old cordless drill seems to be at the end of its life and I have a few projects planned in the near future where I’ll need a powerful new cordless drill anyway.

Best will be Milwaukee. Yes, Makita and Dewalt have viable options and so do other mfg’s, but there’s a reason so many tout the performance of the Milwaukee. Myself, I have a Dewalt. If/when all my Dewalt drills, saws and other equipment fail on me, I will move to Milwaukee.

I have used my Milwaukee for 3-4 seasons on my 8″k-drill and last spring it went in for warrantee work. Cant tell you if it was because of drilling ice holes or from driving screws. Did plenty of both. All I own is Milwaukee. Had Dewalt stuff but batteries sucked and eventually most the tools crapped out.

I have also just picked up on Reed’s VD sale the 6″ K-Drill @ $170 to my door to add to my arsenal!

    +1 for CPO

My drill has seen a ton of use, mixing drywall mud, tile mortar, grout, along with drilling holes in ice. I have been very impressed with the drill.

All the batteries have the same ‘power’, they differ in capacity.

5.0XC are 5Amp hour. There is also a 9 Amp hour batterty. Basically, you’re looking at more holes per battery. How many?…who knows.

CPO Milwaukee has a pair of 5AH for $199, or ONE 9AH for $169. There’s a lot to look at, charging time, how much they are drawn down, temperature, etc…myself, I’d rather have the two batteries, than one giant one that wont fit in my coat pocket.
