Me and my family recently vacationed in Marco Island, FL. We rented a house on the inshore canals leading out to the Gulf and also rented 2 kayaks for the week. I had a blast catching a bunch of inshore species (I believe we counted 9 in total). I am always amazed at how hard saltwater fish fight compared to the freshwater fish I’m used to. One afternoon I brought the GoPro’s along and filmed one of the outings. Check it out!

Looks like a really nice time.

Do they bite much on plastics or small cranks?

Or maybe human teeth are like sheepshead teeth P

Those little snappers are ferocious with some nice fangs.

very cool video and looks like u guys had a great time.

they do hit plastics, i like to use gulp shrimp or crabs. typical wally plastics wrk will also curltails, minnow shape bait… those sheepshead are very good eats too. i remember the 1st time i fished FL and they were talkin about targeting sheepshead and im think “wth, those things arent anything special”
needless to say i had know idea they were totally different fish then our sheepheads lol

yea sure does seem that all saltwater fish fight twice as hard as fresh water fish. a 12″ snapper will fight like a 3lbs smallmouth in current lol

Funny you should say that Phil. I look at redfish and think, what’s the big deal, they look like sheepshead (freshwater drum).

I was throwing a Dynamic Lures HD Trout and getting bit as well as some Shrimp plastics but it was tough to fish plastics in that canal system because it was rather deep right off the walls, pilings and even under the docks. If I would have gotten out into the flats I would have experienced a better artificial bite.

Inshore Salt fishing is a lot different than what I’m used to but man is it fun when it works out! It’s like the river, you never know what is on the other end of your line.
