Headed to Kay Lake the end of July for the first time. Very familiar with northern Wisconsin musky fishing but need some advice on lure selections for Kay Lake musky? Have to be cognizant of weight, Nestor Falls fly in, so I can’t bring the 300lbs of musky tackle that I would normally have on the boat. Any help appreciated. Thank you!

Never been but I doubt those fish see many lures. Couple smaller bucktails, couple cowgirls sized, couple medussas or dawgs, dive and rise and a top water or two.

I have separation issues when I leave tackle at home. I never know what I may need. Think about what you use 60% of the time. Pick your top 2 baits in each section. Double Bucktail, smaller bucktail, top water, side to side jerk, pull, and dive and rise. This should cover you. Ask the resort what people have had success with. Best of luck.

Hi, Larry. As always, Nestor did an amazing job! Unfortunately, mother nature did not. 100 degree heat index almost everyday. Made sleeping challenging. Smallmouth fishing was extremely difficult. The small smallies were doing there usual thing but in much less numbers. The large smallies were active on the surface in 50-70ft of water. Go figure. The musky were aplenty on the follow with very limited bite windows. Our windows were 3 of the 5 nights from 8:45 to twilight. Small muskies were here and there throughout the day in odd locations. The 40” muskies were right where they should have been. Must have had 75 follows in the 5 days but only boated 10 musky with 3 over 40”. Lost a few over 40” too. Black Cowgirls and Showgirls with chrome blades are the only lures that trigger the bite. Tried everything else to no avail. Was an amazing trip and can’t wait to get back. Best of luck, Larry!
