Gabbert will start the next game as Colon Kappernik has been bench, supposedly placed on injured reserve. Yes, the colon was intentional and a perfect description of him. Maybe the 49er’s GM should require a decent hair cut too. The team would be better off without him Any American team would be better off without him.

It’s unfortunate to see his jersey sales skyrocket to 5th in the league after all this….

His sales WERE 20th on the 49ers team rank before this.

The team would be smart to distance themselves from this dink including his jersey number sales.

Where’s the dragon slayer Goodell in all of this? Since this seems to be getting tons of negative press one would think that the numbnuts would be slapping Colon silly with sanctions since it might negatively influence young fans and really goes against the American way as much as spanking a kid.

You’re pretty riled up about this guy aren’t you?

Maybe it’s time to let it goooooo.

I do appreciate that you eliminated the homophobic undertones in this post though, truly a step in the right direction.

He is a employee of the NFL. Will your employer allow you to wear a gun strapped to your belt? There is a time and place for everything.

Exactly!!! And he is supposed to represent the NFL as a responsible role model. A hair cut and a gag and sit him on the bench.

Huh? I still say the guys an idiot but Roger can’t touch him. His hair? LOL! Almost every cornerback in the NFL has 12″ of dreadlocks hanging out of the back of their helmets! Do you guys agree with the 1st Amendment or not?

Goodell could do something, but currently, he’s apparently taken a 3 month sabbatical to study yoga. Reports are that he has assumed a yoga position that looks incredibly like the “duck and cover” position with his butt in the air and his arms wrapped around his head. He’s been heard muttering the chant, “Not again. Not another controversy. Not again. Not another…”

The NFL could invoke the player code of conduct with Kappernik. The NFL has an atom bomb clause that says they can prohibit any player from engaging in any activity that damages the reputation of the team or the league.

The league could weigh in, but just like the spouse/partner abuse scandal where they failed to act, they are hoping this will just go away.

They won’t touch this. Beating women? Yes. Bar fights? Sure. Whipping children with a switch? Yup. Exercising your 1st Amendment rights? Ah no. What Kappy did does not go under the category of ‘code of conduct’ I’m afraid…

The 1st Amendment guarantees you the right to speak freely without the gov’t punishing you. It does NOT give you the right to speak freely with no consequences from the rest of society. There is a major difference there.

Absolutely. But I also believe that the City of Los Angles has a case against the fool for publicly making an unfounded statement against the police department. I’d be OK with it if the city filed suit against them team because he’s still there as a representative/player. Free speech is not an absolute and this is one time I think a line was crossed that should be legally addressed. The guy is free to say whatever he wants but if a line is crossed he needs to get called on it.

No…The city of LA has no case against him in the ‘court of law’. Now the ‘court of public opinion’ already has him burned at the stake as we all agree with. Other than that sadly there is nothing that can be done. Watch ESPN or heck even CNN/Fox News. Legal experts have been attesting to this since it happened. Turn on the TV, it’s on every channel…RR

The team and the NFL both should have a clause in the player and all employee contracts prohibiting any political exspression while representing the team or NFL. Yes we should all have the right to free speech but it should be expressed on our own time. The viewers and customers of the team and NFL should not be expected to pay for his or any other political crap. Let him go to the talk shows, CNN or some other venue to promote his views. I’m not saying keep athletes out of politics, I’m saying keep politics out of sports.

I propose a 3 strike rule on IDO.

The 3rd time you create a non fishing topic in a fishing forum you are restricted to only creating fishing topics from there forth.

Cluttering up a fishing site with sports politics? Seriously Lame.

Tom, were all more interested in your next plastic crappie lure…

This isn’t in a fishing forum. It is in the general discussion forum. Nothing makes a person open them up if they don’t like it.

I think Goodell is treading lightly, with good reason. Drop the hammer on Kap and you risk alienating African-American players and fans, which make up a large portion of your player base and your fan base.

I too enjoy the crappie-themed Tom threads, that is one are of fishing I’ve had very little success. I have family in SE MN and would love to catch more crappies!

Actually, it is a general discussion within the fishing forum… Like maybe a good place to talk about general fishing topics. )

Lighten up Francis, I see this as a general discussion forum on a fishing and hunting web site. I have been around since it was fishtheriver.com and general discussion is just that, “GENERAL DISCUSSION”, what ever is on your mind. If you want to talk walleye and sauger, go to that forum. As far as kappernik goes, RR has it right, there is nothing goodell can do. This is the USA, your company can produce socks with pigs wearing police uniforms and kappernik can wear them. If you don’t like it, too bad for you, go give north Korea a try. Karma will come back and bite him one way or another. He does have one of the sweetest afros I have seen in a long long time, like American band stand in the early 70’s

Goodell wouldn’t have to do anything if the team would just cut him for being a crappy player. I’m a 49er fan and just want him gone and have for some time.

    Taken from Twitter..

If you don’t stand, you’ll sit.

That’s what Team USA hockey coach John Tortorella said when asked about the Colin Kaepernick protest.

The former Rangers coach told ESPN, “If any of my players sit on the bench for the national anthem, they will sit there the rest of the game.”

Tortorella will be coaching the United States team in the World Cup of Hockey, a two-week tournament that begins Sept. 17.

Shouldn’t be a problem, not a lot of African-American dudes playing hockey in the US.

    Goodell’s quote…

NEW YORK (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell disagrees with Colin Kaepernick’s choice to kneel during the national anthem, but recognizes the quarterback’s right to protest.

Asked by The Associated Press about Kaepernick’s decision not to stand before games when the national anthem is played, Goodell said in an email Wednesday: ”I don’t necessarily agree with what he is doing.”

”I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a perfect society,” Goodell added. ”On the other hand, we believe very strongly in patriotism in the NFL. I personally believe very strongly in that.”

Goodell added that NFL players have a visible platform for their viewpoints. With that comes responsibility to use those platforms properly.
