Spent last weekend fishing a smaller lake in the Kabetogama area. The lakes are absolutely horrible as far as slush goes. We took the atv and got stuck only once luckily. The fish were slow to bite, the key was to change up lures alot and keep working them. We were able to catch several crappies and a ton of perch. Jigging spoons, and diamond jigs in all colors and sizes tipped with the head of a minnow was the baits of choice. The key areas we targeted were steep rock drops into about 26 fow on a main lake point. The pike were hot and good size on this trip. We caught a total of 9 pike between 30 and 35 inches. The pike were between 7 1/2 pounds to 10 pounds 10 ounces. Three of the pike were caught on jigging rods with 4 pound test. The key for the tip ups were dead suckers rigged with Fireline Crystal leader. We were able to ice quite a few walleyes but all were fairly small. We caught some nice crappies in the 12 inch range. What a great trip!
