Kabetogama or Namakan

Planning either a late trip this year or something for next year. Would be 2 or 3 guys, like decent cabins but nothing fancy is needed. Looking for good access to fishing mainly, somewhere safe to dock the boat, open to either lake or even Rainy for that matter. Never fished any of them, looking to catch a bunch of Walleye. Price for lodging is one of the bigger concerns as I’m trying to add a trip since it doesn’t look like my used to be annual trip up to Kenora is off for now. TIA

We do vrbo on vermillion and rent personal cabins on the lake. Maybe that’ll work up that way otherwise I don’t know many rental cabins up in the national park

Ashkanam resort has some really nice cabins, and is a full service resort. It is on the Ash River, so there is a bit of a boat ride to get to Kab. The narrows where you enter Kab is on the east end of the lake so Nam is really close as well.

Maybe, if you don’t mind text me the info on who you used. Really want to hit Kab though. Open to all ideas. I have researched it a little and plenty of resorts up there, just wondering if anyone had any experience good or bad to share

    Sounds fun, John!

X2 on the Ash River area. It’s not very far out of Sullivan bay and like Mojo said is easy access to both lakes. No cabins that aren’t private on Nam that I’m aware of, but there are several nice resorts on the west side of Kab too that might fit the bill.

Or a short drive up to the Visitor center to launch too if you want to cut the river and Sully bay out. Absolutely serene place in good weather. toast

I’m doing namakan in mid September with some buddies, camping an island. I think it’s like $9/ day for a campsite. I’ve never done it, if you happen to be there same time shoot me a message.

There is no lodging on namakan itself other than park campsites. Your options are to look into the ash river resorts, kab resorts, or crane lake. The resorts on ash river are the most centrally located if fishing both lakes is a priority. Kab’s resorts are all on the west end making a long boat ride to namakan.
You’ll find plenty of fish no matter what end of the park you’re on.
As for pricing, look up Frontier Resort on the ash river. They run a very basic fish camp type resort. Nothing fancy at all but they are generally the cheapest.

There are a few resorts on the west side of Kab that should meet your needs. I have stayed at Sandy point a few times in the past and enjoyed it. The cabins are nothing fancy, but they have a nice harbor for docking, gas, bait, and restaurant on site. I believe they have new owners now, so some things may have changed.

Used Grandview of Lake Kabetogama couple times on Kab. Clean cabins nice dock area and pretty reasonable. Have also done the houseboat thing as well prefer Kab for fishing just have not fared well on Namakan not sure why.
