Hello everyone. We just got back from voyagers and had a blast. We did very well on namakan using minnows and caught lots and lots of small 9-12 inch walleyes and saugers. Still caught a few keepers to bring home. The mayflys we’re starting to hatch and we saw walleyes breaking the surface with their fins to eat larvae just under the surface. Shallow less than 15 feet with soft bottom worked the best with sunset being very productive for us.

Were you camping? Interesting week for camping up there. Lots of weather passing through.

We stayed at Voyageur Park Lodge last week. Lots of wind made it difficult to go out during the days with our pontoon boat we rented. But we did get out once the wind died down and did pretty well. Sunday evening we fished with Guide Wade Watson. He was great and gave us some good information to help us all week. We fished areas where we saw a sand to rock transition on windblown points and bays. We Lindy rigged with leeches or crawlers anywhere between 10 and 20 feet of water. Nothing huge… biggest being about 23 inches but a lot of fun spent with my family and my parents. We also hiked to Locator lake which was a very nice hike and not too buggy. Tom Cod bay should start picking up soon. Grassy Islands always produced.

Ya we camped in the namakan entrance site. It was really weird weather for camping for sure but it didn’t kill the fishing.

I’m supposed to head up Friday for a long weekend with my 10 year old son. Kind of nervous because the weather looks pretty junky for camping at this point. Fingers crossed.

Pool if you get into a pinch John at sunset resort on ash river has really fair cabin prices. I’m not sure if he’s booked up but sure beats not being able to warm up and keep dry while camping. I’ll be staying there in August with my 4 year old.

Thanks for the tip. If it’s going to be an off & on thing, I think we can manage. Might just be limited in distance range from the campsite because I don’t want to get caught out in a downpour or storm in big chop if I can help it. Also I don’t have a real mooring cover, just a trailer cover that uses hanging weights to keep the cover secure and tight on the boat. So I’m somewhat nervous about soaking the boat itself.

What site are you camping At? We just got back from n26. We had some serious wind so we couldn’t go out of kab for more that one day. Namakan is much more forgiving and easy access to the ash river if the weather gets bad.

Lost Bay Island, so Far East end of Kab. Accessible to Namakan for sure, we were planning a trip up to kettle falls.

Ya those spots are nice. We stay at k8 in eks bay regularly but getting out past wolf island can be tough in high winds. It can get to be a rough ride. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

The mayflys are hatching for sure so look for soft bottom shallow under 15 feet. Gateway General always has accurate reports so that’s where I would get my bait and some advice. Namakan was giving up numbers of sauger and walleye but small size. Kabetogama had more size but less action. We came back with our limits fishing namakan. Jigs and minnows worked for us but I heard crawlers and leaches were also productive. We used 1/4 oz jigs but roach rigs were also working. There’s a lot of food in the system so keep moving to find active fish I’d say 30 minutes a spot unless it’s producing is enough time to not get stuck in a bad spot. Wind blown sides of islands and bottlenecks in between islands were key. Good luck
