I just bought, and used it for the first time last night- not impressed bc it kept cutting out/stopping going thru 6″ of ice… got a brand new Milwaukee fuel 18 powering it- what are people using for clutch settings/ or can someone help me with the learning curve for this?

What speed setting do you have the drill on? you should be on the lower speed setting, 550 RPM I believe. I use a Ridgid x5, but I assume a Milwaukee also has speed 1 and 2, and you should be on 1. I also have the 8 inch, only used it one day, but it worked flawlessly!

    Drill mode, not ‘screw mode’

Lol, didn’t know how else to put it…

Speed setting 1, Drill selected locks the clutch.

x2 drill selector and on low range which displays as 1. Also I only use the xc4 or xc5 batteries, the compact batteries have less oomph

Use the improved “Clam” plate that does not require you to remove the chuck. It has a bearing system in it that reduces the wear and drag on the drill.

I put mine to the test the other night and had flawless performance.
Couldn’t be happier with this set up.
Go with the above mentioned suggestions and all should be good for you waytogo

This is what happens when you don’t read the instructions that came with the Kdrill. It will state to set on low speed/high torque and on drill mode only. I’ve seen a few guys on the ice with the same issue had to walk over to educate them. )

Used mine for the first time today, paired with the Clam Drill Plate and Miluakee fuel 18V. Worked like a charm through abougt 20 holes (10 in or so), but then the battery died. I thought it would have lasted longer. No biggie … I had two extra 5 Ah batteries on hand. Cut smoothly and effortlessly for the first 20 holes … and so much lighter and 100 percent quieter than my older Eskimo Barracuda.

ONe think to keep in mind when pairing the K-Drill and Clam Drill Plate is the need for an adapter. On the positive side of the adapter, when used your K-Drill is bolted on and not very likely to drop off into the hole.

Wouldn’t it be lighter without the Clam Drill Plate? I se no need to use it,just sayin

Or if more power needed…only 22 pounds.

Would be 5 lbs lighter w/out the drill plate, but when you get older you worry about things like when the blade gets stuck and the high-torqur drill backlashes in your hands. My hands/wrists aren’t as strong as they used to be, so I feel more comfortable using the grip I am used to.

Plus, I like having the extra bearings that can protect the drill from impacts when augering.

Also like having the auger bolted on rather than held on by the chuck.

It’s all worth the 5 lbs and 60 bucks … at least to me.

I just use the handle that came with drill,to counteract the shock. That’s what I love about America,to each their own.

I’m with you Kevin, love the drill plate. Best $60 I’ve spent in a while.

I finally got to use my new K-drill with the Milwaukee fuel 18V, all I can say is, sweet!! I didn’t time it but in 10″ of ice im sure it was way less then 10 seconds. The brake shock I had when I played with it in the house wasn’t even noticeable on the ice. I couldnt do that with the Ion I had (for maybe a week)The reverse cleans the hole and the thing is so light. I don’t have the Clam plate and cant see a reason to have it. I’ve even been able to use the drill to work on some fish houses. I think it was a good purchase.
