He’s on my FB and they had to evacuate. Looks like everyone is safe. 🙏
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377September 28, 2022 at 10:11 am #2149151I wish he would come back here. He was always a great contributor. I hope he and his family are safe. One of my workers has two sisters in Punta Gorda. One evacuated, but the other stayed put and she is like a block from the water’s edge. The one that left lives in a 3 story apt and the last hurricane that hit her it tore the roof off.
September 28, 2022 at 10:28 am #2149158My mom and two sisters are huddled together at one sisters home in Tampa.
The real horror looks to be south of there. I just got off the phone with a friend in Florida. Lifelong resident. Looks like its going to be bad for a lot of people.ThunderLund78Posts: 2680September 28, 2022 at 1:11 pm #2149203Glad we went to Ft Myers Beach last spring, was looking at some webcam footage online right before they went down. It might be a long recovery for a lot of folks and businesses in that area. All the best to everyone’s friends and family down there.
September 28, 2022 at 1:31 pm #2149207Hi, and thanks for your concern.
Yesterday morning the National Hurricane Center released a path in the morning that would have had the eye go right over our house. We decided that was enough to evacuate.
It’s amazing how much these models can change in just 24 hours. The eye is coming ashore far enough to the south of us that our house “should” (I pray) be ok. Just put up a new fence, got a new roof and a new Insurance company. I don’t say that lightly though, because I know my “luck” means it will be devastating for others. So, I don’t take a lot of solace in that.
My nephew lives in Fort Myers, he just recently moved. I am glad to report he heeded my warning and went to Deerfield beach the same morning we did.
I got another buddy, who loves to fish and spends winters down here who just built a house in Englewood. He’ll probably need to cash in his ins and get a new boat. He’s a native, but his wife is from New Hampshire, so he’s up there with family.
I get an ache in the pit of my stomach watching the footage. We were on Fort Myers Beach and Captiva just a couple months ago visiting my nephew. I also visited a month before that. He lives on a golf course and the ponds have tarpon, snook and bass in them, but it’s against the rules to fish, so we hit it at night. I told him those ponds are getting restocked now.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377September 28, 2022 at 1:33 pm #2149208Nice to see you back Pug! Hopefully everything fairs well for you and your family. Now make your way over to the Wild thread and get caught up!
September 28, 2022 at 2:01 pm #2149215Keep the PFD’s near and your insurance paid up Pug!
I hope this blows over without much destruction.
September 28, 2022 at 2:14 pm #2149222Good to hear from you Pug! My uncle is in Cape Coral and was going to try and ride it out (first hurricane for him since moving down 4 years ago), and thankfully saw the error of his ways. Said he barely made it out with roads covered with water. Him and my aunt are holed up at her work which is a hurricane shelter. He’s sending updates of major power outages, 100+ MPH winds and roofs of buildings gone all over. Thinking of all of you down there!
September 28, 2022 at 2:53 pm #2149235Stay Safe Pug. Hopefully your luck will hold and you will escape this one without any damage or at the least minimal damage. My buddy lost his Villa In the Bahamas during Hurrican Dorian in 2019. What a Mess. He’s just now in the process of starting the rebuild. Keep us posted.
September 28, 2022 at 3:21 pm #2149240Hope for the best for all involved down there. Our cabin neighbor has a place in Cape Coral and is taking a direct hit. He planned to head down for the winter in a couple weeks. God knows what he’ll find when he get’s there. Looks like Sanibel is getting throttled. Possible storm surge in that area of 12-18′. I don’t think that island is much over 20′.
September 28, 2022 at 4:10 pm #2149249My nephew left in large part because he didn’t want his car to get flooded. He got an update, and the water is up to the door handles of the first-floor condos. He lives on the second floor.

September 28, 2022 at 7:03 pm #2149288Nice to hear from you Pug, hope things are too bad when you get home.

September 28, 2022 at 8:31 pm #2149305Checking into a hotel in Watertown tonight the front desk lady was frantically trying to find 3 hotel rooms near Bonita Springs for someone. The closest hotel that had electricity and vacancy was 140 miles away.
Sounds like a nightmare.Iowaboy1Posts: 3827September 29, 2022 at 6:26 am #2149319Good to know you are still kicking Pug! havent seen any updates on the pups lately, Glad you and family are safe!
September 29, 2022 at 7:12 am #2149322Gate was damaged as expected. We have a couple small palms that tipped because the ground was saturated. It’s all very, very insignificant concisering the life changing damages our neighbors to the south will have to deal with for weeks from now.
We did have a fire start behind our house from the power lines in the brush behind us. I warned the damn power company 4 years ago.
As for the pups, I don’t know who was with us the last time I posted, but we have a new generation of 3 amigos.
We lost Apollo this spring at 13.5 years old to heart failure and ended up adopting a Spitz we named Lunar.
Sorry I for all of you who have lost pups since my last posting. Another pack of good boys and good girls who joined the great IDO dog park in the sky.

My sister lives in Fort Myers and I know she is stressed to the max. We told her she was nuts moving there last yearSeptember 29, 2022 at 7:18 am #2149330Glad your doing good pug.
My sister lives in Fort Myers and I know she is stressed to the max. We told her she was nuts moving there last yearI hope they evacuated. We rode out Irma and Matthew and the eyewall never got close to us, but it was unnerving.
Gregg GunterPosts: 1059September 29, 2022 at 9:00 am #2149347Good to hear that you’re ok! My bil rode it out in Naples. No power or internet.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23377September 29, 2022 at 9:13 am #2149349Some of the videos I have see are just ridiculous! I cannot imagine trying to ride that out. I saw a video of a NOAA plane that flew through the storm that just seems unnecessary.
RipjiggenPosts: 11824September 29, 2022 at 10:25 am #2149366Ugg glad you are safe PUG. That Ft Myers area is just destroyed. Love that part of Florida. Visited Captiva last year guessing most of that island is destroyed.
September 29, 2022 at 11:10 am #2149388Pugster, we’re glad you’re okay. I was thinking the same thing as this hurricane approached, hope Pug has gathered up the pack and hightailed it to high ground.
Just wanted you to know we’re thinking about you. Whenever someone says “natural disaster”, we always think of you.
