Anyone from IDO use one are they really smooth on breakthrough? do the blades last fairly well. Looks nice way better than the no point Eskimo pistol

Pro staff are probably the only ones that have used it so far. Also for the record Eskimo added a center point for the pistol bit this year, something they should have done from the get go.

Butter smooth without sacrificing speed. I got to use the heck out of one of the synthetics last winter. Loved everything about it. Put it through the paces up on Lake Winnipeg drilling 4′ of ice… it rocked! I wouldn’t expect the steel drills to see much ice time this winter.

Okay, I was finally gonna upgrade this year to the new 40V since my ole Electra Lazer just isn’t cutting it anymore. tongue

It looks like the 40V still uses a steel auger bit.

Guess I’m wondering what direction to go? I do not have, nor do I need a Milwaukee or DeWalt power drill for any other reason.

All I want is a lightweight electric auger that’ll drill plenty of holes for the lesser cost?

Thanks James I was hoping I pro staff would let us know. Fish water you are right Strikemaster got it right and just so others know Eskimo only put the point on the 8 inch not the 6 inch looks like I’ll be a strikemaster convert. James and others any idea how many inches of ice with a 6 inch 5 amp battery per battery. I hope to use the Clam plate wrist injuries from the past.

I have the eight inch K drill and love it. I have drilled as many as 24 holes through 10″ ice at 5 degrees temp. I keep two batteries handy but the Auger Drill is terrific. Good Luck

You will get a much, much longer battery life using a blade design like the pistol bit or lite flite. Not hating on the K-drill, I own one too. Just stating facts.

It will be interesting to see how well it and the blades hold up. Watching a few video’s it looks like it sure cuts faster. I love my K-drill, but if after a year or so on the market these look to be holding up well I may need to make a change.

I was in Cabelas (E Hartford) today and they had both the 6″ & 8″ Lite-Flites stacked up on the floor but nobody knew the prices.

Along side them were lots of K-Drills marked $269.
I questioned the sales person. Really?? $269. They really only cut a 7½” diameter hole. He didn’t have a clue.

Wouldn’t a Strikemaster 40v AND the Lite Flite auger be a perfect match??

The HT Nero folding auger might be my next purchase as its incredibly cheap. May keep one up at the cabin as a spare. Also, hopefully this one brings down the price of the others.

It does not look like the Clam plate will work with the lite flite. the clam is 18 mm shaft the lite flite is 22mm I have broke enough handles off my drills so I believe it will go back when I get it bummer sad I really like the plate I have replaced 3 drills because of the handles snapping off can you use it without a handle. Anyone know if a K drill adaptor would work?

They do make aftermarket drill handles that bolt on. They are much stronger than the handles that just screw into the side of the drill. That might work for your drill.

depends on the quality of the ice. by the end of the season, our pistol bit was slower than our kdrill (same diameter) due to all the sand and crap we get in our ice down here in IL.

mrpike, I used the pistol bit all last year, and was suprised how smooth it was. I was a able to drill holes one handed while drinking a beer. I wouldn’t put a clam plate on mine if you paid me.

That’s like saying your Jiffy chipper is faster than the Nils you just pounded through a sandbar…no surprise…sharpen them more often!

The Clam plate Milwaukee drill 5 amp battery and adaptor weigh #15.6 oz the Same thing with the pistol bit is #13.6 oz roughly this is for a 6 inch size A little heavier but nothing to bother me.

Does anybody know what the maximum shaft length/cutting depth is on these?
