Just Encase Box

Little bit of a story here with some pics at the end (hopefully).

We used to have a Crestliner 1850 Sportfish with the gold down bench seat. This made a large back deck which my dad and I loved. Last January I bought a Lund 202 ProV off a member here and knew I wanted a Just Encase Box from Bob to make a big back platform like our old boat had. Most of the time people get these boxes to store specific lures like jigging raps, crankbaits, or Muskie Baits. I wanted mine open to store 3700s in.

We had to take the boat up to Bob so he could get measurements and a better idea of what we were thinking. Bob is an incredibly bright guy, was very easy to work with, and very good with communication.

I’ve also been interested in aqua traction but never been around it long enough to see how well it cleans or lasts. Bob has a working relationship with Nate at Aft-Tek who does custom aqua traction stuff. I basically sketched what I was thinking, sent it to Nate, he had it drawn on a computer and sent to me for confirmation. The whole process from Nate getting ahold of me to getting the pieces to Bob for install took 4 business days! Quick work.

My box is the biggest single box Bob has ever done and extends out back deck by 25”. There is 8 compartments and each compartment holds five 3700s, one skinny 3700, and two 3600s. So now I need more tackle! The front right compartment in the picture also has a lift out tray that is 2” deep. We will keep pliers, scissors, etc here and this is so convenient.

Anyway, I’m just thrilled with how the whole thing came out. It looks great and is exactly what I was wanting to accomplish.

    Hopefully these pics load.

Well done!! I have a Just Encase but nearly on that scale. That fits right in there. So you’ve eliminated the pods?

I made my own casting platform. Marine grade plywood covered w boat carpet, quick release seat post holders w rubber plumbing caps on the bottom. Boots are for size comparison. I have a rod locker on the port side that, when I need to get into it I have to take the platform up (takes me about 45 seconds and is easy but……)
    Yours looks GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you take the boxes out individually or are they secured to the bottom?
Can I ask what you paid? I would do your setup in a heartbeat – WELL DONE!

Just Encase boxes are expensive. But they are industructable. I have never heard of anybody breaking one. He uses top notch hardware that doesn’t rust. Well worth the money if you intend to use it a long time. I have one thats 36″ wide and use it for Spoons, Bucktails ect.

It looks great and to have that storage AND be able to walk on it would impressive. I don’t store under mine but easily could. I take it out when I go up north to walleye fish as it’s easier when I have three people,e in the boat. The jump seats are a non issue though as you can just sit on the box top top til we get to our destination.
I am thoroughly intrigued by this!
    A GREAT niche business

For the most part. Still an option to put in if we ever take the Encase out. I actually really like the pods, just think this is a better option.

Your extension looks good! I did consider building one myself. Would’ve have been cheaper but not as functional.

My box is not fastened to floor in anyway. It’s pretty easily removable. The hardest part here is removing the tackle. I supposed you wouldn’t have to do this but it would make the thing quite a bit heavier.

Cost for the box was a little less than $2k and the aqua traction was right around 500. That part could have been cheaper had I not the got the logos and the tape measure built in. So it’s kind of expensive, but I don’t think it’s outrageous for what the box gives me and it’s totally custom.

For what it’s worth, we took the boat with us when we picked it up Just to make sure everything was good. I am so glad we did because the were was some side to side rocking. We fixed this by changing the feet height.

So it wasn’t square? Great idea and everything but $2500 for a tackle box that isn’t even square on the bottom?
Or was your boat the issue?

    That is super nice Loomis.
I need to prioritize what I want for the next few months. That is hard charging to the top of my list.
THe price is a little steep but its pretty nice stuff. My friend has several of those boxes on his musky boat and I’ve admired them before.
I would imagine the rocking was due to the boat versus the boxes. Boats are not exactly “solid” in that regard. Seeing how many screws unscrew themselves and all the trailering there’s a lot of movement going on there!!

That looks really nice and best of all functional. But why would you pay out of pocket to have a brand logo added to the sea deck? Shouldn’t they be paying you to promote their brands?

The box was perfectly square. Bobs attention to detail is second to none. The lunds from that era have a hump where the battery compartment is. So we had to add some taller rubber feet. A non-issue really. Just glad we took the boat to pick it up.

You’re not the first person to say this, and I don’t really have a great reason. I’m not a guide so the only people who are going to see this is people fishing with me basically and you guys. I also think Shimano makes fantastic reels and some nice poles as well. So no other reason than I wanted it to say Shimano.
