June South Dakota Update

June saw a massive rise in water temperature. June 1 Fiolka and myself were wearing the winter bibs trolling plugs with upper 40 degree air temps. While towards the end of june now we are seeing good weed lines in place and hungry fish. My mainstay for june has switched more over to pulling plugs than pitching just because I can cover so much more water. The fun thing this June was fishing a couple of new bodies of water for the first time. Even as a local I still have not hit them all and I hit the south end of Waubay for the first time in a few years. Sure is fun to hit some 6 and 7 year old waypoints on the GPS and have them produce.

Pulling #5 and #6 shad raps in hot steel, as well as helsinki shad and purple shad have been top producers. Depending on water clarity 75 to 100 foot back on 10lb line has been a great pattern. Some long stretches have shorelines with multiple small points. As expected you will hit a few more fish going over the small points but have also hit some fish in-between out a bit deeper. Casting the points produces fish as well but never slowing down and continuing to troll has allowed us to hit long stretches of shoreline when fish are scattered ultimately putting more fish in the boat. Silver bass as well seem to jump in for the ride along the way. I plan to do a lot more trolling come june as well as some live baiting when fish tend to really hug the weeds on those calmer days. Good luck to all getting out. – QB

    Thx for the update QB
Was kinda up in the air about going back this Summer yet as the last 2 trips produced a number of small fish and very few quality fish
Might have to re think about coming back out there soon
