July trip to fish Erie

The wife and I are thinking of heading to Erie for a week in July. Does anyone have recommendations on the best area to stay? I understand that even with a 621 Ranger we may not be able to fish everyday due to wind so staying near areas that have other activities available would be nice. It sounds like there is a great walleye population this year so it seems like a great year to check this trip off the list. Thanks in advance for any input!

I also want to try a diy Erie trip. I was in Sandusky last week and checked out the access areas around marblehead and Catawba Island and the Port Clinton area. I was pretty intimidated by the size of the lake especially with the winds we had last week across the northern part of the country. Hopefully some experienced folks can share some tips.

We stay on Kelley’s Island. It’s a smart place to stay because no matter which way the wind blows, within common sense reasoning, you can always tuck behind the island and still spend the day catching fish.
