Got a chance to fishing the river Monday. Jug fishing is still proving difficult. Drop-shot drifting for bluegill is producing very well.
What do you guys focus on this time of year?

I can’t speak for everyone, but most of the cat guys switch over to Lake Sturgeon fishing. They fight close to the same as a flathead with the chance of hooking into a much larger fish. (50 to 75 pounds is fairly common but there are 100+ pounders out there). And they have the ability to jump clean out of the water.
Jug fishing sounds like fun. Some of us are in the land of 10,000 laws and we aren’t allowed.
I was on Texohma a few years back and the shores had a few jugs laying around. Do you find that in your area Damon?
Thanks for posting the video. We don’t get to see that around here unless we venture off to YouTube.
I’ll take a gill over other fish any day.
When I was talking to our guide, he was saying they put out three sets of 12 jugs and don’t leave until they locate all of them. I wouldn’t think they would be that hard to find and a person would want to locate them…just to see if there’s a fish attached to it.
I made the comment that the MN DNR would never allow jug fishing in MN just because to the jug litter on shore. It’s bad enough with the soda bottles and other crap a few people toss into the water up this way.
Looks like you had a good time in the video!
I think it was Bill Dance fishing the Tennessee river when I was first introduced to jug fishing. It sure seemed like a pretty fun way to spend on the river just watching for the jugs to start bobbing while yo drifted down the river.
I know I’ve got a couple rods set up to drift gills now after watching your last video. Now I just have to find the time to get out and fish. It’s hard to do with a 1 and 3 yr old.
Finally skimmed through and watched it. Couple questions.
The audio is good. You using a GoPro with a mic? If so, what kind of mic is it?
The blue thing, is that a chum thrower or a clonk?
By the way, I love the sound of those motors.
Good video. Most guys who GoPro their fishing trips get a little boring because there is little narration. And some like me feel a little weird talking to myself (although I do it all the time in my head). However, you have the gift of gab.
Oh, thanks. I hope get time. I’m think of writing a book, “Fishing Methods for the Time-starved Angler.”
Pug, I use a Contour ROAM sport camera. The microphone is embedded in the camera.
The blue thing is my Channel Cat Chummer. It’s a common dog ball throwing toy repurposed for throwing chum. If you have the time, check out the video:
Thanks for the complement! In real life I’m sort of a hermit, aloof and introverted. I can hardly have a conversation with people. Out on the river with no one around, the camera captures the moment; it makes me feel I can be myself. Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool.
The way you described yourself, you could have been describing me.
