So I am looking at getting a new Walleye ice rod. I am looking at a JT Blackout 34” with the new grip or a TUCR possibly precision? Does anyone have experience with both the JT and TUCR ice rod? I would appreciate any feedback. I am sure I will be happy with either one. Thanks for any input you may have.

I suggest going to the ice show at the beginning of December. You can get your hands on both rods and seeing for yourself. You’ll also have a chance to meet both companies and see which one you’re most comfortable with. When I bought my first custom rod I found meeting the different builders nearly as useful as feeling the different rods. For what it’s worth, I love my TUCR Percision. It’s the most versitle walleye rod I have found. Good luck.

Thank you. I normally go to the ice show every year but unfortunately don’t think I can make it this year. It is a tough choice for sure but I am sure I will be happy with either.

If you live near the metro, come to the TUCR shop for a tour and a chance to get your hands on the rods. We’re in Coon Rapids and open in the evening.

What kind and size of jigs will you be using? I would look very close at the tucr commander. Great rod.

I personally can relate to the JT blackout. When that rod was released last season it has truly solidified its self as a rod designed for trophy fish. Built with high end components with recoil guides as well as a blank that will simply handle any fish you could ever hook into in freshwater. The blank is also reinforced under the cork to help give you extra strength when using handle for more leverage. If you want message me and I can get you set up with one. I am on the staff team for JT Outdoors and can get one to you very quickly. Actually have a 34 that is brand new in my inventory. Look me up on facebook or message me and I can help you out and give you more info. Thanks!

JT all day long. I have a panfishing snare, walleye snare, blackout, and panhandler from JT and love every one of them. Haven’t fished with any other rods in 5 years. I’m in no way affiliated with JT and I’m not a pro-staff member. Just love the poles.

Haven’t the JT rods only been out for 1-2 years?

I looked at both companies as well when I jumped on the custom rod train. I decided to go with TUCR and actually had your same dilema, which rod to get. I really like the Commander over the Precision as well.

This takes nothing away from JT, as they’re good guys and they make a good rod, but I felt honestly that the Commander was just a killer rod. I was headed to Lake Winnipeg and wanted something that would handle the big green backs, but also work for my days on Mille Lacs. The commander had a good tip I like a visual bit, but found I got both visual and feel with this rod.I has the perfect backbone for those big tanks. Rec guides were also a plus.

Performance wise I’m pretty sure they are both going to be great choices. I haven’t fished with the JT rods but I’m sure they build a good rod.

The reason that I personally would recommend going with the Tuned Up is because of their business model and the customer service it allows them to provide. Tuned Up truly builds custom rods where you can control every aspect of the rod based on your needs for both performance and aesthetics… length, action, reel seat, guides, wrap color, etc. JT uses similar high quality components but they don’t allow each individual customer to fully customize. With Tuned up you are dealing directly with the manufacturer of your rod with no middle man included. If you ever have any questions or product issues you can drive to their shop and work directly with the owners of Tuned Up waytogo

I am not trying to start a debate here about JT Vs TUCR but to be fair the Blackout and the Precision are not comparable rods.

You would want to compare the Blackout with the Commander. Both are going to be solid purchases.

The Commander can fish some pretty light like 1/8 oz spoons up to 1/2oz. It is a very versatile and has a solid backbone. The Precision is more of a finesse walleye rod for 1/8 oz and lighter. It depends on what you are really fishing for lures. TUCR is more tuned to a range of jigs and style of jigs.

If you are looking for more a finesse rod I would go to a Precision and more of a power type rod Commander is the better one.

So I am looking at getting a new Walleye ice rod. I am looking at a JT Blackout 34” with the new grip or a TUCR possibly precision? Does anyone have experience with both the JT and TUCR ice rod? I would appreciate any feedback. I am sure I will be happy with either one. Thanks for any input you may have.

both rods will be a great fit. I personally would go with the JT Blackout. I fished with it up on Lake Winnipeg last winter and handled those fish very nicely. I agree with the above that going to the ice show and seeing both rods will help you make the decision. Yeah, you cant choose the color wrap on a JT, but that doesn’t catch you fish at the end of the day. Each rod has been tested, field tested, and tested again at a specific length to make sure the customer is getting what they paid for, a quality rod that will do exactly what its meant to do, perform.
