Jointed and shallow flicker shads

I remember these being announced this past summer but saw them on the shelf at fleet farm this week for the first time. Anyone get to use these yet? I think I’m gonna love em this summer. Lots of good colors. The flashy/sparkly tail options are nice as well.

I think I have two 3600 trays full of shallows already. Much cheaper option vs. raps & salmos when trolling these sodak lakes that have fencelines, trees, & farm equipment to snag up on.

On Pools 2, 3, 4, and 5 I’ve found very few situations where fish are going on Rapalas but not the similar Flickers. The shallows are new to me, but they will be given a shot this spring pulling shallow on the postspawn bite.

There’s still situations where I’m running Shap Raps, but the Flickers are carving out a bigger space in my trays solely due to cost. I had two Rapalas snap to their inner wire last summer from 2# walleyes hitting them while trolled at about 2mph. The complaints fell on deaf ears as well.

I have a lot of Shad Raps but I’ve found that in the past several years, my go to crankbait in many situations has become the Flicker Shad. Shad Raps, Jointed Shad Raps, Rattlin Shad Raps and Glass Shad Raps have many good qualities about them and I’ve caught a ton of walleyes on them over the years and they’ll always be in my tackle boxes but it’s hard to argue with the price of Flicker Shads and they are some walleye catching crankbaits.
My only complaint about them is the cheap hooks.
I’m definitely going to be buying some Jointed and Shallow Flicker Shads because they look like they could be very good but I’ve been waiting to find a good sale on them.

I love flicker shads as well but I really wish they made silent ones. Some days I know it’s the noise (or no noise from shad raps) that is the trigger.

I agree white this as well. But I’m just thankful they’re expanding the line because it seems like it’s been a while since they did anything but introduce new colors on the flickers.

I love trolling and lose a fair share on the river so this will help my bottom line, plain and simple.

    Firetail looks fresh!

I agree also but I think there’s more to it. It has to be a combination of the profile, the action, the water displacement, the colors, etc. in addition to the rattle that makes these so appealing to walleyes. I have many different crankbaits that rattle and don’t catch walleyes like Flicker Shads catch them day in and day out. Kavajecz and Parsons designed them well.

I can’t argue with that, however it looks like the jointed will use a different hook. Berkeley website lists the originals flickers with Mustad ultra points, and the jointers with their own Fusion 19 hooks. Never used them so we’ll see.

Thanks! I did not know that.

I like flickers for trolling and rapalas for casting. Not sure how the new ones will be but the shad raps are heavier and pitch better. However, the flicker shads seems to troll better and are cheaper so losing them to snags isn’t as big a deal.

Someone above mentioned glad to see flicker shad expanding their line up. Just looked at fleetfarm today and flicker had half of an entire isle. But still no jointed or shallow flickers. Only company taking up more space is rapala.

FF in Hudson was where I found them. I think they were set off on the end of an aisle, not with the rest of the flicker section.

I checked FF in Rochester yesterday and didn’t see any on display. A large section next to the flicker shad / minnows was cleared – maybe a ‘work in progress’ for the new offerings?

I’d venture to guess that FF’s selection of the new flickershads will expand here in the next few months.

FF’s website said the BP store had a bunch in stock, and they have a sale going for $1 off all flicker shads until March 2nd, so I figured I’d pop in. They were not out on the shelves yet, but I managed to find the one lonely soul staffing the fishing section and he was nice enough to drag out a box from the back room for me. There ended up being a not-so-diverse color selection in this box, which I’m sure was just one of many in the back. But I was happy to get to pick through and grabbed a selection of 10 or so.

Looks like they have the Fusion 19 hooks on the whole line now — here’s a regular, shallow, and jointed.

FYI, FF has the jointeds and shallows priced at 4.99 and the regular flickers at 4.49 — all size 7. $1 off that price during the sale.

Blaine MN Fleet Farm had them out last weekend when I picked them up for $1 off. Like the look of them so far and the price is right, I am sure they will go on sale again soon also.

Blaine had a fair amount in stock still as of Monday. Those Fusion 19 hooks they upgraded to on the Jointed and Shallow Flicker Shads are STICKY SHARP which is a much needed improvement over the previous Flicker Shad hooks.

I always thought the previous hooks were sharp enough but they were just not strong enough. In my experience, it was common to catch a walleye and have bent or broken hooks after unhooking.

I haven’t used the new Flickers with the Fusion 19 hooks so I can’t comment on the strength but I sure hope that has improved as well as the old ones did hold up very well either. They certainly look like a stronger hook so I’m optimistic.
