I knew it was the classic nice day after the cold front, but I went out fishin anyways. I started by trolling points at Elwood and saw a few fish there, but couldn’t get anything to hit my change up of baits. Tried spooning a bit, and that didn’t produce either. After a few hours of that, I went over to the Tri County canal and met my Dad and tried for whites and crappies. Fishing over there was tough, too. I trolled some points and found bait and fish sitting on the edges of them, so I ran cranks right over there that had worked previously, as well as a few new ones, and couldn’t get them going either. Dad and I went to another couple of crappie spots and ended up pulling 5 out before the sun went down. Dad also got a drum to hit his jig, and I got a green sunfish. Things are still slow at both places, but I hope they’ll turn on quick. Water was all the way down to 72 degrees.
The water is receeding little by little at Elwood. I used the concrete ramp again, but with the boat off the trailer, I backed down a bit more to find the end of the ramp. I found it, and it’s not very far now. So if you don’t have a roller trailer and need to float the boat, be very careful.
