I’ve always wanted to push this guy in the lake for being obnoxious.. Just watched a YouTube video of John, Pete & some other guy Muskie fishing. John went nutzo when they netted a fish & the net guy turned around & bitch slapped John.. About the funniest, most well deserved thing I’ve seen smash

Not sure if he was better or worse, when they let him drink a 12 pack of Blue Ribbon before filming the show. Shows not bad, but he’s defiantly a Tool. Pete Mania nearly pizzes himself laughing.

I am not a big fan of John’s loud mouth attitude on the show. His daughter is even worse too. But he fishes locally in MN and WI, so I watch the show sometimes.

I’ve noticed he has also lost a lot of weight. Maybe he cut back on the Johsonvilles.

It’s very uncomfortable to watch him basically grope his guests. If everytime I caught a fish I had some slobbering bafoon putting his arms around me I’d take up Nascar or something

And yet people still watch his show and buy the products he advertises. I avoid him completely. As the saying goes, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing moon

Can’t say I care for him either, if he would just throttle back he would be tolerable. and yes, his kid is fast becoming like him.

He is what he is. He does 52 shows a year, that’s incredible.

The guys putting on a show come he’ll or high water. Fishing can be boring to watch. He makes it lively. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea obviously. I bet he’s a lot more tame when the cameras off.

I don’t think the guy is that bad. After all the guy goes fishing for a living and he doesn’t have to do anything other than bring lunch. I’d be excited too. I have to say I certainly wouldn’t share a canoe with him though.

I dunno I guess I like shows that show some kind of info technique in some way. Rather than every fish being a slobosoraus.
Kudos for him to make money in the fishing industry being a terrible fisherman.

That was hilarious, Jon Jon snap out of it! 😂😂 I don’t mind his shows also, like others said either you enjoy it or not. I like that he’s relatively local on his shows. He Definitely does get overly excited sometimes!

It’s a trade off of one trait for another. If I was scheduled for seminar on the same day as him at Bass Pro, I worked with the events Coordinator to get my time slot changed to as far away from him as possible. Didn’t even want to be in the same area of the store as him

Yes I don’t care for his shows. You don’t have to hold up every fish for the camera. Was fishing little bay de noc in late 2000’s in november around 12:30 am and all of a sudden I hear him yelling about a 1/4 mile from us and I like what the hell.

I agree. Watched it last night. Way too much bickering and celebrating eating junk food. Cooking segments not bad.

I find it funny more than anything but I can’t watch more than an episode at a time. The guy’s a walking punchline! When fishing with friends and we get a fish on – regardless of size – we yell “GET THE FRABILL!!!!”

A guy I fish with quite a bit always jokingly says “Now that’s an eater Pete” regardless of what comes over the side of the boat. Drum, dink saugers, jumbo perch, catfish, and everything in-between. Gillespie says it every single time they’re catching small/average panfish or small walleyes.

We do the exact same thing, it’s been a long running joke in my boat.

I only watch his show when I want my wife to leave the room. I just can’t handle all the yelling. He does have some good information now and then.

My favorite part is the photos of the week at the end of the show…

By far the most exaggerated fish in todays world.. Not sure if some measure in inches or centimeters.

I used to be able to stomach the stupid crap with JG but the daughter is way too much. Hard pass these days!

Agree on the Daughter but I know John has had some health issues (heart issues, I think?) and I think it’s an effort to keep the family business going. All kidding aside, I wish him well, Love him or hate him, he’s one of the hardest working guys in the industry.

In a industry that is not that easy, he has made his brand and it works for him. Not my cup of tea but I watch when nothing else is on. BTW…. the brand works as we are discussing it!
I met him at a landing once and after a 20 minute discussion I liked him more as a person than I thought I would. He tuned down his demeanor and we had a nice talk. Pimped his sponsor stuff a bit but I know he has to as they pay him…. I have heard a lot more product pimping out of Pro-Staff guys who certainly weren’t getting paid to pimp a product.
When he annoys me I change the channel!

OK, so I’ll buck the trend. I watch his show every week. I have it recorded. Maybe not for all the antics and yelling and Johnsonvilles, but doing 52 shows a year is impressive. He doesn’t know from week to week where he’s going to be fish or if the bite will be spectacular. Much like any of us going. I really like the timeliness of the shows, and all the locations are within a pretty easy drive from the Twin Cities.

WHEN POSTING ABOUT GILLESPIE IT IS IMPERITIVE THAT YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS. THAT WAY THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO CONFUSION AS TO WHICH JOHN GILLESPIE YOU ARE REFERRING TO.

My wife was in labor with one of our kids and I turned on Gillespie. It almost led to an immediate divorce. LOL
