Jigging Rod suggestions?

Broke an old favorite jigging rod tonight and need to replace it. Want to stay under $150 for this one. I know there are many great options for well over $150 but $150 max is my budget on this one. Thinking Fenwick Elite Tech?
Will be used almost exclusively in lakes jigging walleye in less than 15 feet of water with 6 pound mono and 1/4 oz jigs with minnow.

What have you guys used in that budget that has good sensitivity and fast action with a good backbone?

6’6” mlf st croix eyecon. Great rod for the price, is perfect for 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs in my opinion, and is $120. Huge bonus with st croix is that if you break it, they’ll send you a brand new one.

You mostly vertical jig or also pitch jigs? I’ve got a 6’9″ medium light elite tech that I love for 1/4oz jigs. Bought it for pitching jigs but the more I use it vertical jigging the more I realize I actually like that little bit of extra length even when fishing vertical. Actually makes a pretty good lindy rig rod too.

I have two 6’10” MLXF (MLJS610MLXF I think) St. Croix Mojo Bass rods that I use for all my jigging, drop shot, lindy rig, etc. I thought when I bought them they were cheaper than the Eyecon, and they Eyecon were closer to $200, and seemed exactly the same (besides saying “bass” on them, ick lol ) but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Not sure what the difference is now. I see the Eyecon says it’s SCII and Mojo Bass is SCIII which means… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

MOJO bass is built in Mexico and the eyecon is built in wi. Thats the one difference I know.

Sorry, should have specified. 99% vertical jigging.

I have one eyecon and I do like it but if I bought another I would get different specs for a little faster action

Have somebody build you a rod off of a Rainshadow Immortal blank.

Limit Creek Smoothie. Minnesota company. About $100. For the money, best value in a jigging rod I’ve found.

I don’t do much jigging any more, but one of these has been on my radar as a few of my regular fishing partners swear by them and their value.

Is it straight vertical, or drift fishing/ putting around slowly looking for fish? 1/4oz is pretty heavy for straight vertical under 15′ only reason I ask.

If your line is going to be behind the boat drifting around I recommend going into store and finding your max range rod in a medium extra fast. The XF tip will get you much more solid hooksets with 6# mono especially if the waters a bit choppy like any eye angler wants putting a bow in your line. Sensitivity will count, not so much for the fish bite, but feeling if your jig is tipped with a weed, hitting rocks/snags, crayfish vs fish, or if your bait became fouled on the line.

    Just my 2 cents.

I meant to type 1/4 max jig. I do some stationary vertical jigging but mostly very slow drift/troll. If I can move slow enough to pull an 1/8 oz jig I do that whenever possible. Definitely interested in the x fast action

    .

This is absolutely the answer. Their 5’10” medium action rod is also a good vertical jigging rod. I use that for heavier applications a lot.

Everyone should have a smoothie in their arsenal.

Fenwick HMG are beautiful rods right at $100. They were 25% off a few weeks ago. Can’t beat the quality for that price. Mixed reviews for warranty but I broke one in my rod locker and they sent me a newer model in a few days. By far my favorite jigging rod. One of the main reasons is they have a normal handle, not like those stupid knobs that every company keeps trying to push these days.

Might be a Minnesota company but rods are made overseas.

That’s not exactly unusual. Minnesota owned.
