Jig For Timber/Brush

I recently started making my own jigs as the lake I usually fish is loaded with timber and I was losing too many lures. I purchased a Do It Mold brush head mold. I used them for the first time this weekend and was snagging more than before when I was using more of an arkie type head. Do I need to use a stiffer brush guard perhaps? I am currently using a medium stiffness. Any guidance is appreciated as I was very disappointed in the performance. Thanks.

How far back are you trimming the fibers/weed guard? You won’t want a gap between the point of the hook and the ends of the guard material, you want the two to just about be touching and maybe even a bit long so the bristle is running slightly past the hook’s point.

Also, if you are using the lighter strands for your guards, try using the heavier [stiffer] ones.

I am not trimming it too short, so I guess I will order a stiffer guard.
    Thanks.

I use Nu-Tech jigs for all of my jig fishing. It is very snag proof and the hook ups R always in the top of the mouth.. C them at Hyneejigs.com
