Jiffy Propane auger won't drill?

Here is a question that I have, that I have no idea if someone can answer. So the issue is with my jiffy propane auger. It does not drill right. This auger has the STX? blades I believe they are called, and last year when I drilled a hole, you could feel the auger grab the ice and dig in, cutting a hole in no time. Now it takes forever to drill a hole, it barely cuts, and if i apply a lot of pressure it doesn’t want to drill. Any ideas? I don’t know if the blades are bent? Its only 2 years old, could they be dull? I live in the cities, so if anyone knows of any good service centers I could take it to? Thanks for the help guys, I need my auger fixed now that we actually have more ice!!

Call Jiffy, they have a 2-year warranty on blades, if it isn’t quite 2 years old they’ll help you, might even help you if it’s just outside the mark!

Does it do this all the time? Just asking because my dad has one and there are to small blades just above the pilot point that will get iced up and make it useless also but I guess if it happens even with no ice on them you probably should just call jiffy.

I had those same blades on an auger I had. Drilled awesome the first year not so go after that. Called jiffy n they sent new blades. Drilled good again. Maybe the blades are just cheap Chinese metal. Good luck

I have a Jiffy with the original blades(STX) on them and it still cuts like new. So might just be a bad set of blades or somehow they got out of adjustment.

If it has a center point look there.

I bought a sharpener from Fleet Farm and sharpen at the beginning of the season. The blades on my PRO4 have lasted a long time!

Jiffy’s website has a service center link.
I have used the STX blade style for years and many augers.
If it is not “biting” and pulling the auger through the ice something is wrong.
It could be the tip as mentioned or bad blades.
In an extreme case something could be bent.

    Service Center.

What sort of file did you buy?

As far as service centers you cant go wrong with D-Rock. Best auger service around. They just tuned my Jiffy STX.

I have the same auger. I have experienced this at times as well, but it was only for a single spot on the ice; if I moved over 1 foot, it would bite fine. It seemed like it had issues whenever there was that bad white, porous ice. Could it be that the lake that you are fishing has that same ice?

Now that I think about it though, it could have been iced over and then just moving the auger was enough to break it up a bit.

Jiffy actually sells a hand sharpener that is super slick, two sharpening plates to sharpen the blades at the correct angle.

On the right kind of ice those inner blades can clog and it wont cut until you clean them out by hand. This sounds like its happening with clean blades all the time but its definitely something to be aware of.
