Jiffy Model 30 Problems

    Hi all,

I have an old Jiffy Model 30 (about 25ish years old) that I’ve started to have issues with. Recently while I was out I noticed that it makes a noise sort of like a vehicle shifting – whirring up at high RPMs, catching, and then revving back up. The blade itself stops spinning when the catch noise happens, making the drilling take quite a while longer per hole, as well as the starting to be a little more difficult. I only experienced this issue on my most recent trip and haven’t been out again since. Any ideas what might be happening here?

    Thanks,

Sounds like the clutch needs to be replaced.

Try greasing the clutch. There is a grease fitting under the clutch housing.

removing 4 bolts will seperate the motor from the transmission, the centrifical clutch is attached to the bottom of the motors shaft, more than likely one of the 2 springs holding clutch disc’s together is broken, fairly common on older well used augers

x3 The clutch. I had a 30 long enough to repair the clutch. I miss the ole gal, but she was heavy.

x4 on the clutch spring, common for those oldies but goodies. I still have my model 30 in the garage, just can’t get myself to sell it even though I have a newer auger and never use that one. Should post it some day and let someone else value the antique, ha!

Best day for my ice gear was the day I got rid of my 30.

I have to close my eyes just to think about it! doah

As everyone else mentioned, it’s the clutch and it doesn’t get any better without fixing it. My point here is if you take it out again, it won’t be any different then the last time as far as time to drill a hole. waytogo

Take it to D-Rock in New Brighton, Mn. They will have it running like new in sort order. Fair charges.
