My girlfriend’s 2005 Grand Cherokee’s 4.7 recently went south with 180k on it. Within an hour of posting it online, someone agreed to buy the corpse for $2800 as it was in awesome shape, new tires, brakes, etc.

We’ve spent the last few days SUV shopping, and cannot find any decent 2005-2007 Jeeps (She would like to stay under $10k, and away from the 99-04 body style as she doesn’t want to match mine). Her family is into Explorers (dad and bro have one), and have been pushing us to get one. Any Explorer owners, or owners of both, can you give me some pros and cons?

Sorry don’t mean to hijack your question but…..what the heck is going on in your avatar and where do I watch the rest of it?

Well…since you asked, I have had both and the Explorer will be the last Ford i will ever own, way to many problems. The Grand Cherokee was nice, never any issues (other than the diesel engine)

usafcatm – search “mexican fireworks” on youtube. That has been my avatar for the last 7 years I bet. Hilarious video.

That’s what I thought, Yellow Fever. Unless they made 6,000 total Grand Cherokees during the years I’m looking for, I feel that they are a better vehicle, and people are still driving them than trading them in.

I have had an ’04 explorer since 2006 and it has been no problem at all. I bought with about 34K miles and it now has about 150k. Besides maintenance things I doubt I have $1,200 in repairs into it. Tows well and 4×4 has been great.

    Good luck with your decision
