I have read bad things about them. I would keep asking questions.

Ok fuel economy if you don’t push it.
Reliability is on par with others in it’s class.
Do the research if you can for trouble spots.martybPosts: 104March 10, 2019 at 11:14 pm #1842181Get an extended warranty… you will get your money’s worth. Nice looking and riding vehicles. We had a 12 GC Overland with the V6. We had the 72/72000 extended Chrysler warranty and it paid for itself several times (warped cylinder heads, susp nsion compressor replacement were the biggies)….
March 11, 2019 at 8:17 am #1842214I’ve been looking at these also in the 2007-2010 range.
The major issue I see pop up(and my mechanic mentioned it also) when look is that the rocker arms can fall off the 3.7’s. Google ‘3.7 v6 jeep rocker arms fall off’. A lot seem to be early Libertys, but I found some hits of people that were 2005’s and 2008’s also. Makes me kinda not want to get one now. Sounds like it also happens with some 4.7’s too.
March 11, 2019 at 9:27 am #1842234My wife wants another GC. We have had several Jeeps. I think the 3.7 is too small and the hemi is too big (mileage) for the GC. I dont feel they have hit the sweet spot like in years past. If we get another it will likely be another hemi.
March 11, 2019 at 5:13 pm #1842367The 3.7 is a decent motor if it wasn’t for the programmed shift points and/or gearing. My 2006 Liberty likes to shift too early for my taste if I am easy on the gas pedal. I think my engine is rated at 210 HP and the 305 V8 that was in my 96 K1500 was at 230HP. The common joke on Jeep forums are that they are gas guzzler rated and not trail rated
March 11, 2019 at 7:45 pm #1842397Not as new as you are talking about but I have 2000 GC 4.7 with 247,000 miles on it and do not see an end in sight yet. I average all around driving 22.7 for a V8 and mostly short trips I cannot complain. Besides a few electrical issues been pretty trouble free. If I was buying I would look for the V8 better power much more fun to drive and better mileage.

How did you like your 2012 3.6? Any other issues? I’ve read out head issues on some of those 11-12 and TIPM electrical issues. Not sure if it was just some or a lot of them. Made the mistake of having my wife test drive a 2011 last night. They definately ride alot better and more quiet inside than the 2008 range. I know she won’t probably like an 08-10 now after driving the 11. Thanks.
March 13, 2019 at 2:37 pm #1842955My mother is on her second GC, both with the Hemi though. She liked her 16′ enough to buy a 19′. I think they’re probably the best vehicle that FC puts out currently. Wish I had more to say.
March 14, 2019 at 2:10 pm #1843223I like the GC, the look, the power, the towing capacity. I just wish the interior was larger. Small backseat that’s hard to get in and out.
I think the new Ford Explorer, going back to RWD, will be the new mid-sized SUV to beat.
March 14, 2019 at 6:04 pm #1843312I won’t get rid of my 05 GC unless it burns to the ground. Most capable vehicle I have ever owned and it has been relatively easy to maintain. The 4.7 dropped a valve seat at 279,000 and needed a new head. Been running great now at 325,000. Not a spot of rust on it either.
Personally I like the solid rear axle of the WK over the Independent suspension of the WK2. The WK2 does ride nice but does come with more bushings, ball joints and other wearable items. Towing capacity I believe is greater on the WK also due to the solid axle. Of course, my FIL swears by the early 90s 4.0L Cherokees. In fact he has 2, as well as a ’99 GC and ’13 GC Trailhawk. He’s a fan of Jeep and now I see why.
To the OP, can’t offer any insight on the 3.7L. I believe it is essentially the same design as the 4.7L minus two cylinders.
Amber HarmonPosts: 2April 29, 2019 at 12:05 am #1853510Did any of your electrical issues include the key with a slash thru it on the dashboard? Causing a no start no crank issue?
superiorfishermanPosts: 34April 29, 2019 at 6:42 am #1853515We have a 2011 GC with 3.7–we like it but had to replace lifters last summer since knocking, if was to get another id for sure get the huni in it–i pulled our 14ft boat and does ok but gas mileage isn’t much different with the hemi

It is, not sure it would have different problems but I haven’t heard anything good about the 3.7. Sorry, not trying to be doomy. My friend has 240k on a 4.7 so that seems common.

May 19, 2019 at 5:18 pm #1857614thanks to all the info I bought a 2011 g c Laredo with the hemi has almost all options as the limited am pretty happy, wife loves it.
