The forecast for the next 2 weeks starting tomorrow (and potentially more) is calling for daytime temps in the 30’s. What a difference a year makes. Last year we were all looking at -25 or colder this time of year. Maybe this is a sign of an early spring?

I saw that yesterday too, it was like a shock and I literally started getting ahold of people to set up some ice fishing gatherings. Nothing like a good cold snap to make/ solidify ice followed by temps warm enough to enjoy the outdoors in winter.

We’re a long way off, gimruis. Given the all-time record precipitation we had in 2019 overall, along with the super heavy snows of Feb/March 2019, I’d say we have a long ways to go before spring. It’ll just be a little warmer than usual as the snow piles on, again and again.

I too am looking at this as an excellent ice fishing opportunity. Finally some nice stable weather should help vs. the yo-you effect we’ve just had.

I dunno about spring… but this forecast means abundant pig walleyes from the river!!!

    toast

    What this guy said. ^^^^^^

Anyway you look at it this is going to be a short winter. Currently its been just a little over a week since being in a boat for me. Now a extended warm spell during what is typically the coldest part of the winter. And throw in the days are noticeably getting longer. Winter is on its way out. Time for a very long extended spring.

I agree. Get this 30 degree week out of the way as a warm-up, then bring on 70 degree days and 55 degree evenings and nights until May 15 and turn the heat up.

I hope you are wrong Glenn but fear you may be right. That being said I think it is time to pull the Ranger out of storage and hit the river.

I’m just hoping some of the water levels drop and the snowpack recedes gradually in the area. Maybe a slow early melt to deplete some of the snow will help long term? We could do without another flake or drop of rain from now through early April and be just fine.

Here on Pool 4 things are actually at “action stage” right now which is fairly alarming when you think it’s the middle of winter shock

After a 14 hour work day today the first thing I did was double checked the trolling motor batteries were plugged in. I sure wish I didn’t have to spend Saturday at the boat show.

All I know is I had standing water in spots on the lake property when things froze up last fall. If we have a wet/cold spring it’s going to be late June/July before things dry up.
