I know it may be picky. Pleas kick the snow and ice aside. You guys never move the mounds of ice and snow. Let us see your clean holes and area. When that freezes it like a mogul for the next folks. Another good show. Thanks.

Are you saying that it needs to be clean for the next people to fish in the holes, or that it is harder to walk over them? I’m not sure what you are getting it with this post.

harder for sleds and atvs to get over them I am assuming. People just need to drive at the speed they feel safe, many hazards on ice, hole mounds are minor.

Not sure how it would help you out either way unless you follow James around after he does his show.

Clearing the mound of ice chips equates to replacing your divots on the golf course.

The other side of the coin is that the frozen lake is not a golf course and many things can cause an uneven ride when traveling across the ice. As the saying goes, only one guy gets the chance to ski fresh powder on any given slope on any given day. The next guy has to avoid the first guys tracks!

Or in this case, the next guy has to avoid the ice chip moguls.

Or maybe seeing the mounds of ice/slush will let someone know there was a hole there so they don’t step in it…… I leave mounds around my tipups to keep them from freezing up as fast. Really moguls?

In a perfect world with perfect conditions with a perfect bite yes, kick the ice. At heart its a good idea, but reality coffee

How long does it take for a mound to harden up? How long do you fish an area that you punched? How many times do you go back to that same hole, even area in a day to try that hole again? Unless your a professional soccer player, how sore would your foot be kicking 50 mounds of hardened ice in a day? Does a snowmobile/atv/truck need to be going that fast on ice to be concerned about a stupid mound of ice?

Clearing away the mound is just something I’ve always done, but I never did it out of consideration for others. I just never liked the snow/ice falling into my hole when I was near it.

Drill hole>immediately clear away the pile with my foot>give the hole a quick zap with the auger to clean it out again>fish

Sorry to have posted. Its just me but I kick aside the slush and or snow on all my holes. Maybe I just like a clean work surface. No skimmer used .

Hitting those things going 50-60 mph in the dark is painful.

That may be one reason not to go 50-60mph in the dark….

One of my clients is a knee specialist and he saw my clear a hole kicking the slush with the side of my foot. He highly recommended I never do that again unless I want knee troubles. So for that reason alone you’ll have to deal with my 4000-5000 mounds I leave out on the ice a year. Sorry wave
