Iwo Jima 75 years ago today new digitized film

Ok this is way off for a outdoors forum but I’m a history buff and really enjoy when new films from combat photographers are found and become available. Besides we shouldn’t forget these men and women. These newly digitized films are not the bloody action shots but more of the human side and what went on in the background. I will post one here and a link to the others along with the story explaining where the films originated. Maybe some others here will find it as interesting as I did.

Any one looking for a interesting book about a woman Marine’s experience in combat should try “Hesitation Kills” by Jane Blair. It is her experience as a woman officer during the taking of Baghdad after 911.

Turns out a Minnesotan was the one who filmed the iconic flag raising on Iwo Jima standing next to Joe Rosenthal. Very interesting story.

I just watched the World War II in Color documentary on Netflix a couple months ago. That was a great documentary. They showed some really great footage from the island campaign including Iwo Jima and the flag raising there but also the rest of the war. Munchy I believe they mentioned that man from Minnesota that filmed it. My granddad was in the Army and in the island campaign..I now have a greater appreciation for the sacrifice our troops and everyone else during that time made. Very humbling…
