It’s almost 8pm and it’s 92 degrees where I’m at. In the city with all the concrete it’s probably over 100. I remember 10 years ago I was a bachelor living in a house with no AC. On nights like these I used to drench a towel and put it in the freezer. Two hours later I’d pull it out and use it as a blanket. On nights I forgot to do that I would often get up in the middle of the night, pour a large glass of water, return to bed and just pour it on myself in bed. Would feel great for about 20 minutes until it started to evaporate and then the humidity would make things worse.

Thought about shutting off the AC and giving the kids some life lessons but at 40 years old I don’t know if I have what it takes anymore

71 and a breeze from the South. It was a bit chilly so I slid the window closed a little bit. No, there is no room in International Falls, housing is full.

I would say report back in January but I actually like the cold so wouldn’t have the same effect

I’m not far from you also in the urban heat island. It’s sweltering today. The heat index was 104 here because the dew point was 73 earlier. This morning when I got up it felt fine out but by lunch time it was an oven. Luckily it’s only gonna last one day, hopefully some beneficial rain tonight.

I’ve never lived in a house or apartment that didn’t have air conditioning. I don’t know how people function without it anymore in this climate, unless you live in Duluth where it seemingly never gets that hot because of Lake Superior.

97 with a south breeze here today,I put new U-joints in a bravo 3, installed it back on the boat and verified the shift settings.
Around noon I went to the country and removed a carb and distributor off of a 4020 tractor and brought them back for overhaul.

Finished assembling a power head on a 90 Merc 4 stroke so I can install it tomorrow.
Fixed 3 flat tires, laced up 3 new ones and to finish the day I ran full diagnostics on a 225 Optimax,
All of this with no AC in the shop and I spent very little time in the office where there is AC.

It’s all about acclimation and keeping hydrated, in my younger days I put up hay in a lot hotter weather than this.

    I work outside…..so yeah jester

Today actually wasn’t too bad, it was cool this morning and when the heat hit at least there was some wind with it.

The worst days are when it’s 80 and muggy at 5am….you know it’s gonna be a bitch of a day, and usually ends up being a 14 hour one at that lol

Yes those are the worst days. If it’s already uncomfortable at 5 or 6 am, you know it’s gonna be sweltering by 3 in the afternoon.

Shingled a house today with black shingles of course. Did it suck, sure. Just another hot muggy day. I’m sure there’s more coming this year. I don’t love the heat, but I drink plenty and even wear long sleeves all day. You just learn how to deal with it. waytogo

We did 2 concrete pours out side today followed by some gardening when I came home. I guess I grew up working in it and my body just accepts it. I did swap socks today 2 times at work. Those work boots can get pretty nasty on days like these. Just like pop, I wear long sleeves all summer long.

    Random tidbit:

Does anyone have luck with those “cool towels” you soak, throw in a freezer, then tuck in your shirt, hat, etc? I ordered a few today and figured to give them a shot.

I hand unloaded 198 sheets of 4×12’ rock and hauled it up to an old barn renovation loft this afternoon. It was one of the few times the “side gig” didn’t feel worth it. Thankfully the beers afterwards were still ice cold to recover.

I don’t know how you guys do it!!! I was outside for all of 10 minutes this evening and it looked like I jumped in a pool I was so drenched! I don’t do well in the heat and I know I don’t work outside, BUT I reserve my right to complain about the heat nonetheless. 🥵🥵🌡🌡🔥🔥
I don’t complain much in the winter and I’ll gladly take 10 below over 90+ any day!

    Is it October yet??

When I was younger 55 years ago or so and no AC I would buy a couple bags of ice, I would put in a big bowl and use a fan to blow what cool you would get from the ice

bucky I have a Mission brand cooling cap and towel. The cap is meh! in my opinion. The towel works super. I just wet it with cold water and it helps for 4 hours or so.

I took the day off to enjoy the warm weather because it won’t last long. This morning I framed up for my concrete and leveled the area, took about 6 hours so we were dine around noon then took the kids out on the river the rest of the day so I spent all day outside from sun up to sun down….but half of it was on the water. Now the storm has gone through and we don’t have power.

I would take January temps over what we had yesterday too. Even my dog won’t go out other than to pee in that jungle. I honestly don’t know how people in the south live in it for weeks on end.

I had a wind event last night but the heavy rain mostly missed me. doah

It was nice in the morning, then got nasty in about 1 hour from 11:00-12:00.
This summer, I set up a twin bed in the basement. 8-10 degrees cooler than the upstairs bedrooms. Don’t even need a fan.

I had to do some last minute work in the boat last night before we head up to LOTW. I was a puddle, but as long as you keep the water (beer in this case) going in, it’s not so bad. Just don’t stop drinking. I used to work outside every day of the summer. So I’m used to it.

Everyone below the mason Dixon line is laughing at this thread.

Smallies were going good on the river yesterday, sure wouldn’t have caught em biatching about how hot it was.

I was thinking the same. Then come winter we’ll laugh at and some will belittle the southerns when they have cold/snowy weather and make news out of it.
