Hi everyone I know that its the middle of the summer, but I like to be well planned so I have been working on my winter ice fishing trip. Last year I went to Devil’s Lake and had a blast fishing perch. This year though I want to target the ‘ol eyes. Any suggestions of lakes and places to stay? I am most likely going to bring my portable and gear just cuz I like using my own stuff. Thanks in advance!

Never too early. There’s a new Otter being modified in my basement right now.

Agreed, its never too early. I have the other thread from this month about Devils Lake. Turned out that one of the 3 places I called said he was 100% booked for ice season already so it must not be too early for a decent amount of people

As far as eyes go, me and the wife did LOTW out of Zippel Bay last winter. We had a blast even though fishing was overall slow. There was a definite clock on the walleyes though, our sleeper shack was in 15ft and starting about 30min before sunrise, there was a good bite until about 1hr after sunrise. Then we would go our deep water house (34ft) and the bite was slow but consistent from 9AM to 4PM. At that point, the bite in the shallow water house would pick up again until 30 to 60min after sunset

Thats been my experience too on LOTW. bite is hot early and late for brief periods and then shuts off at night. We can sometimes catch eel pout and white fish at night but no eyes. Good thing that when its hot there isnt another lake like it. Heard Red lake has a nice night bite might try to make a trip there next year

Going out of Roger’s on Red I’ve had good success all night for eyes even late season, really enjoy that lake.
