Iran just attacked Israel. United States is positioning ships to intercept missile strikes.

Maybe I mis-spoke. Maybe I should have said Iran retaliated against Israel instead of attacked them.
April 13, 2024 at 4:47 pm #2267101Not good for oil prices. Any sort of escalation in the Middle East will only make oil prices more volatile.

April 13, 2024 at 9:15 pm #2267139This was a predicted retaliation for the April 1st attacks, not a random act.
Whether or not things escalate further is anyone’s guess.
AK GuyPosts: 1406April 13, 2024 at 10:27 pm #2267163As chaotic as 45 was during his term, foreign affairs were not. What a mess internationally it’s been the last three plus years and it ain’t getting better anytime soon.
April 13, 2024 at 10:27 pm #2267164I think you’re over reacting. Iran transmitted this attack days ago, everyone and their mom knew it was coming. It did zero damage. Iran must really have impotent armed forces.
April 13, 2024 at 10:53 pm #2267169Life will go on as usual here in Minnesota. Unless you’re retired and glued to the TV. The Middle East has been a mess for thousands of years.
nordPosts: 738April 14, 2024 at 6:50 am #2267180chuck 100, FYI, in 2019 we pumped 12.3 million b/d, in 2023 we were up to 12.9 million b/d, in Dec. of 2023 we were up to more than 13.3 million b/d. These are all new records. So, we are pumping large amounts of our own oil.

Not sure they were actually trying to kill Isrealis. Just send a message. Iran is a pretty big p*&^% when things start getting really hot.
April 14, 2024 at 12:54 pm #2267215I’d love to see a hard line with everyone in the Middle East from the US, including Israel.
A strong Israel definitely benefits the US, however with what we give them we should have a say in how they handle situations. The tail shouldn’t wag the dog. The more issues Israel talks themselves into with our money…the more it ultimately costs each of us.
The more I read, the more this feels both symbolic and educational for Iran. Now they have “retaliated” to save face as a deterrent…and have learned more about their defense system capabilities (or the US one) that basically squashed this entire attempt of an attack.

Terminology is useless in this case. Been a mess for years between the two and Iran’s support of scum throughout the region is adding fuel.
US involvement started weeks ago. Very top end specialist in nukes, and response teams were in place in incredible speed.
April 14, 2024 at 2:42 pm #2267225This is not going to be good for anyone in the end. I agree this is a long going conflict between Iran and Israel. But is going the wrong way and will simply divide this world even further.

Unless this starts ww3. The prez better be careful given it’s election year.
But until then, it’s fishing time as usual.
April 15, 2024 at 3:40 pm #2267430If the Strait of Hormuz is blocked and prevents oil from being shipped, get ready for $5/gal gas.
The narrow passage connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. In 2022, over 21 million barrels per day passed through this area, which accounts for 21% of global liquid petroleum consumption.
You could go about your daily business without batting an eyelash, sure. But what happens in the Middle East may affect your wallet when you head to the gas pump. And I’m pretty sure we all buy gas or use it, one way or another. I need gas to run my outboard, and I need my outboard to fish. And I need my truck to haul my boat to the lake to fish. So ya, what happens in the Middle East on the other side of the planet does have an effect here.

No doubt and great points, but worrying about things that are completely out of your (and my) control is adding stress to our already stressful enough lives, even more so worrying about things that “could” happen.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22980April 15, 2024 at 3:50 pm #2267437The vast majority of our oil comes from Canada not the Middle East and we have brokered deals to pay less than what the open market is trading at. I am certain our gas is going to go up no avoiding it, but it may not be as bad as it could be.
April 15, 2024 at 3:50 pm #2267438Gas prices are not really even on my list of concerns related to this topic. Nuclear War or WW3 vs Russia and/or China are far more concerning. Iran would be light work for Israel or the US, but what that would lead to is the trillion dollar question. And I don’t know who is in charge in DC, as I’m very sure it’s not Biden or Kamala.

Production in November of 2019 hit 13 million barrels per day which was the peak before the covid drop.
