It’s Led Zeppelin. Not only my favorite, but the best. It’s science. You can close the thread now, thanks for coming out!
Amen !!!!!
Two dozen responses and nobody’s mentioned the greatest rock band of all time: The Rolling Stones
My favorite band is The Beatles, but I have to admit that the best ROCK band is The Rolling Stones.
Back when Technics was the go to stereo system and had around 400 watts of power across some fantastic speakers I would crank up in no certain order.
The Godz
Uriah Heep
Zepplin
Black Sabbath
Nazareth
The doors
Pink Floyd
Jethro Tull
Iron Butterfly and many others
To this I’d add the Moody Blues and Steppenwolf
By the way Dutch….. great post and question.
It’s scientifically proven that Rush makes your beer taste colder.

It’s science. Can’t even argue
I’m not surprised that the Beatles made a few of the lists, but it seems to me that Dutchboy disqualified them in his original post when he said no “Boy Bands”. IMHO they are the original “Boy Band”.
Just listened to “Eat a Peach”, doubling down on the Allman Brothers.
Metallica, Rush and Maiden are my favorites. But when I think of rock and roll, Bob Seger just says rock to me.

THANK YOU!!!!!!
The Stones are Rock and Roll
But if you’re opening it up to the 80s, then “Tallica, G&R, Van Halen and Ozzy need mentioning.
And I’ll make fun of myself, but the one band that embodied the 80s is Motley Crue. I LOVE THEM, make-up and all, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
The Power Loon radio station out of Brainerd/Baxter plays a ton of songs from many artists mentioned in this thread. I like listening to that station when I’m up there. That station rocks.

Its a good station if you’re visiting. It’s annoying when you live here and hear the same couple dozen songs every day. They need an expanded playlist.

If your coming from 612-land, it’s WAAAAYYYYYY better than KQ.
I fried a lot of speakers with AC/DC & Metallica… Led Zeppelin II
The options are endless. Music today sucks. The guitar, in the old rock bands just isn’t in modern music.
How did no one mention CSN or CSNY?? Several of the others like Slow Hand, Lenard Skynard, Led Zeppelin, oh and what about Bob Seger?

It is you just can’t listen to the mainstream radio. There is so much awesome music being made still but they don’t make the radio cut.

You gotta tune into Z99 99.1 out of Bemidji (I think), they play the exact same songs as the Power Loon but when the Loon goes to commercial they keep rocking. Also only station I’m aware of that regularly plays the 7-8 minute songs that were popular in the 70’s like In Na Gotta Divita, live version of Simple Man, We Will Rock You straight into We are the Champions, etc. I always shut off the playlist, podcast or Loon once I reach Z99 country!

Yup, Z99 is definitely better than the loon. I don’t know if they still do, but as you said, years ago they would play the full 17 minutes of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida at 9pm on Saturday nights. I heard that classic tune many times while doing some bar pregaming
Gentlemen, stay on point!
The OP stated,,,,
“Rock & Rolls greatest bands from the 60’s through the 80’s.
Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Boston, The Who, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Joplin, Steppenwolf.
List your favorite band. No boy bands or any crap from 90 on to today. Real Rock & Roll, the kind that you blew speakers out with.
Oh and to edit this,
I still got my Best listening Speakers = Magnapans!!
And I’m rocking out with Vintage “Eagles” tunes!

I have a lot of experience in this area!
I was a Stones / Zep / Hendrix kid growing up. Will never forget when Van Halen I was released. Eddy and Eruption was life changing. There was nothing like it at the time! Toasted the parents stereo in short order that summer.
I wish I had all the cash I spent on 6 x 9’s and car amps in the early 80’s They knew me by name at the Best Buy!
There is some wicked bass mid way through Metallica’s One that has killed more speakers than I want to admit to. That and Master of Puppets are top of the list.

Very true. I saved up some cash when I got my first job at 13 or 14 and bought a sweet stereo and would jam that stuff so loud the house would shake.

Bass drum, maybe. But “…Justice” is notorious for have almost zero bass. But man, Lars’ kick drum punches in that entire mix. It makes the album. Definitely a speaker-killer when cranked.
