It's a nice day for a swim

Took a little swim while pheasant hunting today. I caught myself before I got too deep but I never hit the bottom. I should have known better. There was a long trail with no cattails. Obviously it was a creek that ran through the slough and the ice was thin. On the plus side we saw 15 to 20 hens and approximately 5 roosters. The only problem was they were getting up a hundred yards ahead of us. Still a nice day to be out.

Saturday was nice out and Sunday was crazy windy. Lots of hens and saw zero roosters. I don’t recall the last time that happened.

All of our birds were seen in grass. Nothing in the cattails, but lots of sign that they were there at one time.

Yikes, I bet that was chilly! I’m nervous when walking in tall grasses. I’m kinda short, so I just feel like I’m about to step into a hole or something when out hunting. It’d be better if that hole wasn’t filled with cold water!

Me and my husband Billy got out last weekend hunting on a friend’s land south of Cannon Falls. It was windy and chilly! We saw tons of tracks, and jumped about 5 roosters. Only shot one. We also jumped a flock of turkeys! Could have been about 10 of them running around and they eventually flushed once we got close enough. Two of them landed in a tree nearby. It was pretty funny to watch. Our friend’s dog Dash (Brittany) was on point and as I approached ready to jump a pheasant, another damn turkey flushed… They make quite a racket!
