Last Saturday night I had a bit different guide trip.
An undisclosed IDO member and his favorite wife wanted a tour of P4 before heading out flathead fishing. No problem, we’ll start out at 5:30ish and tour down the main channel to the head of the lake and then back up through the WI channel. When we approached the lock we found there would be an hour wait for the tow to lock through. No problem, we have pleanty of time to get some fuel at the casino marina before they closed at 9 pm and then off catting.
I notice while in the lock my gas gauge was the lowest I’ve ever seen it, but I was sure confident we had enough to get us from the lock to the casino marina. We did and arrived at 8:55 to find the lights out and no one around! Dang I thought, why didn’t I fill up before heading out?
I called the casino and they transfered me to the valet. They said someone would be right down. Whew, pressure is off. Twenty minutes later and the pressure was on again because no one came and according to the lady I was talking with, no one was coming. It’s after 10 pm now.
My hats off to my clients that night. They were troopers.
We ended up taking a taxi ride back and I was apologizing all the way. I picked up the always awake Trumar and went back to the casino with truck and trailer to bring the boat home with my tail between my legs.
We stopped for fuel and found I had around 3 gallons left.
In 10 years I haven’t had anything close to this happening before…and the moral of the story?
Always leave with a full tank. And I’ll never count on a business to take care of my business again. (sigh)
