Hello all, I have a 16′ Jon boat I am looking for a bow mount trolling motor for, don’t care if it is a motor guide or minkota, probably 55-80# I would like a remote and possibly spot lock. Any one have something? Or suggestions for where to look? Thanks.

Did you check classifieds Eric rehberg posted a terrova I pilot 80lbs for sale at the Chippewa Skeeter boat center. Also craigslist has a handful of them I’ve seen people are selling terrova slime crazy and upgrading to ulterra.

Yeah, I have been looking, I probably need a shorter shaft then 60. What does everyone think about the 12v 55# xi5? Would it pull my 16′ upstream?

Just found out a 50# 12v wouldn’t pull my 14′ upstream. She’s a heavier 14′, and the current was cooking good so didn’t expect to much, but kind of disappointed. Your results may vary.

Don’t underestimate the shaft length you need. It’s not just the height of your boat above the water line that you need to consider. I have found that on windy (wavy) days if your shaft is too short it will come right out of the water. also when you’re running the trolling motor from the back of the boat with the remote it’s nice to have the head of the motor up in the air a ways so you can see it. things and people can get between you and the motor head and block your view so I always buy the 60 inch shaft.

Very tempting, just really considering spot lock, what is the going rate for a 65 or 80# ipilot, with spot lock?

Or you can buy certain used TM, 2007 year models and newer I believe, and add on the Ipilot for $450.

I run a 50lb 12v maxxum on my 16′ Jon and there are plenty of times it is not enough. 42-48″ shaft is plenty on a Jon boat. If you have the room and fish in any amount of current buy a 24v.
