Are you looking for a completed rod or just the blank? I make what I think is a pretty slick noodle rod by sanding down a glass blank. I could do 32-34, or order a blank up to 48″ and do any length you want.

Let me know if you’re interested. I could do either a completed rod or just put the blank together for you.

Not cheap, not expensive – I would look at the DH Al Dente Noodle as well. I think the blanks are about $25 and he has them up to 36″ this year. I had a 28″ Al Dente last year. Found the tip to be a little heavy for my preference and sold it, but they are popular with some. Otherwise the only other production blank I know of that seems to be worth using is a Thorne Power Noodle which isn’t cheap, and they only list 26″ blanks on their website.

You might try contacting Stuart @ Ace custom rods – he just got a large batch of 36″ glass noodle blanks. I’m not positive, but I’d guess he’d sell a blank.

I got a hold of Stuart at Ace custom rods. Heard a few things about them so thought I would get a hold of him. He just got some 39″ noodle blanks in. $22 plus shipping so I have one headed my way to see what it’s like.

    check on mudhole.com

They only offer a 28″ , want longer

The Mudhole noodle blank is only 26″ but it’s easy to extend it to the length you want with a piece of hollow rod blank that the noodle blank fits inside. I’m building one that way right now that the finished length is 32 inches. As for repeatability with sanding
other blanks, once you get one sanded to the action you want, trace the blank on a piece of paper and measure the blank’s taper with a calipers and write the sizes on the paper for future reference.

P.S. Had planned to glue my noodle blank inside of the extension tube, but it turned out to be a perfect friction fit so I’m going to leave it like that – similar to a collapsible flipping stick so it will take up less space in the rod case. Just overwrap the ferrule part of the tube to reinforce it so it doesn’t split.

Yup. I recorded my blank diameter with calipers at every inch increment and in places closer than that. Pretty easy to replicate a blank that way. I like mine a lot but for the price and time savings am curious about the ace blank. Will update when it arrives.

I received a 39″ Noodle blank from ACE custom rods today. It may or may not be what you are looking for. Without wrapping guides on it and fishing it, here are my thoughts:

The tip is pretty nice. I think slightly heavier than what I sand my tips down to. I handled a TUCR Precision noodle the other day and my tips are pretty close to those. I’d say the ACE is just slightly heavier.

It transitions into the backbone quickly, but pretty smoothly. I like the transition – some rods like the meat stick go right from noodle tip to heavy backbone with no transition. I feel like this promotes tip breakage and doesn’t keep a nice flex to keep fish pinned up, or protect light line from breaking very well. This rod transitions fast, but is pretty nice in that regard.

It has CRAZY backbone and power. Not long after transitioning into the tip, the blank really beefs up. The butt end is about 6.5 mm – really heavy for a panfish rod. I’d say a common glass noodle blank has a butt of 5mm (still really stout) or less. This one stays at over 6mm for probably at least a foot from the butt. Maybe even more. That’s not a problem, but it makes the blank fairly heavy, and way more oomph than a panfish rod would need. Having more is better than not enough I suppose, but I have a hard time picturing myself jigging for panfish all day with this rod. Not that any ice rod will wear a guy out, but there’s something satisfying about a lightweight outfit that can still whip a bass, walleye, or northern if they happen to give you the opportunity.

Finish on the blank is pretty good. Not the best I’ve seen, but I wouldn’t turn the rod away due to finish quality. The tip is warped some. The tip is probably warped/deflected nearly 3/16″ from the center line of the rest of the blank. Fairly noticeable when turning the rod in my fingers. Not the end of the world but that would annoy me somewhat to look at all day while watching the tip for a slight dip or up bite.

I think due to the super heavy backbone, and light, but not extremely light tip, I think I’m going to build a walleye deadstick out of this blank. I think it will do that job really nicely. It would work as a panfish rod too, but really is much beefier for at least 1/2 the length of the rod than what I would need or prefer for precise jigging all day.

If somebody wanted something really beefy, along the lines of the TUCR Bullwhip (this is even heavier than that), then the ACE rod might be something to look into. Or, if cutting the blank back to about 28 inches or so, would probably have a similar butt to many of the other glass noodle blanks out there.

If anybody is interested in seeing some pictures of the ACE blank, let me know.

Its probably why I prefer the aldente over tucr or tb noodle. Built my own for $60 with recoil guides

I warranty my rods and blanks against manufacturing defects and also offer a satisfaction guarantee. If you receive a product you are unhappy with for any reason; return it immediately in unused and resellable condition for a full refund. I don’t recommend that everyone paint their Rod blanks, but it can be done well if you use the right products and apply them in the correct way.

The 36″ blanks sound like they would be good for panfish. The 39″ I received would work for panfish too, but has more beef than needed. I’ve been looking for a good deadstick blank and I think this one will do the trick.
