    Hi all,

First time poster here…point me in the right direction if I’m off. I’m searching for my first boat. We all start somewhere. Looking for priority BWCA boat, so no more than 25hp max.

Ideally this is what I’m looking for.
    4-6k
    16′
    25hp 4 stroke
    Trolling Motor
    Trailer
    Livewell
    Extras…rod holders, radio, extra batteries…etc. You know…

I’ve been searching the craigslist and marketplace…nothing yet. Thought I’d reach out here. If you’re in the market to upgrade, or haven’t used the boat in a few seasons, let me know if you’d be interested in letting it go to someone that’ll take care of it and put it to good use on good waters.

    Thanks fellas!

    Welcome to IDO!
Where are you located? There is a nice looking older Lund on FB market place for 3900.

Thanks. I’m in the cities but willing to travel. If you run across links, please send them my way! Marketplace can get over run with listings!

    Thanks!

Word of advice, have cash in hand and be ready to go look at one you like the same day. Other wise you will loose out. The market on used boats right now is crazy, boats are selling for up to 20%-40% then if they were sold 2 years ago. Just be ready to jump if you find a nice clean boat.

    Hey Brad,

I have a 1999 Alumacraft Lunker LTD V-16, with a 1999 Yamaha 25hp 4-stroke, electric start tiller, that I originally bought to fish in the BWCA, lower than average hours. Have had it for a long time, don’t remember the year I bought it, second owner. Full floor, rod locker, 4 pedestal seats, live well, I put perimeter LED lights in the inside rail, has a Lowrance 522c with mapping and a second cheaper depth finder, Minnkota Powerdrive with iPilot and remote. Didn’t get it out at all last year because I bought a new boat, but didn’t make the decision to sell it either. Been in storage in a shed down by Owatonna. May be willing to sell, would have to do some research on price, if that is of interest.

The guys above are right, a lot of the “free classifieds” action has moved off of Craigslist and onto Facebook. If you aren’t searching Facebook, you’re missing a lot of the possibilities.

Secondly, consider ditching the 4 stroke requirement. Why? You’re really limiting your options because the trend in boats is big, bigger, even freaking bigger. A 25 HP is (by the standards of the last 10 years) a small outboard and even on a 16 foot boat, they won’t be that common unless somebody repowered.

You’ll get a lot more options if you look at 2 strokes as well. Also, IMO the best 25 HP motor ever made was the Mercury 25 made from the early 1990s to the end of 2 stroke production. These were tremendous outboards, I have one and I maintain a camp boat up at a cabin in Canada that has another of the same year. Trolls like a dream, great top-end speed, outstanding reliability, and the “all controls on the throttle grip” was way ahead of its time. Terrific outboard.

As others have said, move FAST on this if you want a boat this year. Once we hit CrazyTime on April 1, prices will go WAY up and any boat that isn’t a crapheap will disappear in seconds. This year is going to be hellish for any used buyer, so if at all possible get the deal done quickly.

I agree with the above comments on the hot market for boats. Facebook marketplace is great, but I would not write off craigslist. If you want to beat other people to new boats that post, create a craigslist account and start doing “saved searches”. Instead of having to go on craigslist all the time you get an email whenever something new hits the market that is with in your search criteria. I looked all summer last year for a new to me boat and I would call a guy after it was posted for 45 min and it was already pending sale. Ended up finding one up near Duluth because I got the email alert and dropped everything I was doing and bought the boat that same day. Crazy times kind of wish I would have held on to my old boat to sell this spring instead of last fall.

If you’re not 100% on the 25hp, I may have one for you. It has a 2018 30hp ETec, lund completely re-done (professionally), 2018 galvanized trailer.

PM me here if you’d like.

Secondly, consider ditching the 4 stroke requirement.

As a guy who trolls a lot I would never go back to a two stoke. Three obvious reasons: 1) Decibels 2) Smell of exhaust 3) No oil mixing or dealing with injectors.

Pure personal preference but I would never consider a two stroke again.

    I’d stick with a 4 stroke too.

My bigger boats had 4 stroke tillers. My latest boat has a 25 hp 2 stroke Yamaha.

Even with using Amsoil Saber it still smokes. Sweet little motor but I could live without the smoke.
