I was wondering if pulling a boat down a road and launching it is legal with a riding lawn mower. I ma not old enough to drive and rigged it up it work perfect I just don,t know if it is fully legal. doah

I wouldn’t tow it 20 miles but if you are just running a couple of blocks I’d go for it. Any cop should get a good chuckle after chewing your butt and sending you home. I wouldn’t expect any jail time though. grin

Probably can’t drive any motorized vehicle on any road unless you have a drivers license. I agree with Dutch though. Happened to me at about 14 when driving a side by side on a city street. Got a good talking to by the local police.

May be a good idea to throw a slow moving vehicle triangle on the back for good measure.

Hopefully the mower can get traction or have enough power to pull the boat back out. Dont attempt to pull a skeeter or a grady white but a little 14 footer or so might work. waytogo

To make it legal add a slow moving triangle to back of the trailer.

The main problem I can think of is running lights. There is not a place to hook them up to a lawn tractor. You could try to wire something up to a battery. The caution tringle would help. I would give it a try. One has to get out fishing.

Can’t answer the legality question, but I’m impressed that as a young man you’re interested enough to find a solution to take yourself fishing.

Best of luck, and bring home dinner!

It probably also depends on how busy the road is. If it is all residential with little traffic, I can’t image a police officer caring.

I would get permission from your parents first. If they are fine with it then at least they won’t be so surprised if the cops end up escorting you home haha. Best thread of the week.

Adding a orange triangle won’t hurt but it won’t make it legal either.

Hook it up and go fishing! waytogo

‘Tis way easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Any cop that wouldn’t let you off with a “don’t do this again” would have to be a pretty sorry S.O.B.

Do it – take pics – and report back.

There’s only one way to find out. Punch the pedal and don’t look back.

Silly question, but can you get an Uber to tow your boat? For a 1/2 mile, a few bucks might be worth it.

The drivers have to adhere to some pretty strict rules, and I’m sure that is one of them. So probably not.

Maybe you should just get a horse. I live in Amish country and you see them towing boats behind their buggies sometimes.
