Is this a tick or bug bite. Got stung by a bunch of hornets the other day and about 3 hours later noticed this. Didn’t feel sting there and no other bites left a mark. Can’t get to doc this week and they won’t let me send them a picture.

personally i dont think its a tick. could be a sting or horsefly bite!!!!!!
i got whacked by a hornet couple weeks ago and kinda looked like that for 3-4 days. and felt it for 2 days!!
July 14, 2020 at 11:51 am #1957127The picture is bad. I hadn’t noticed a tick. Thought maybe a bee sting and being on my pants line made it worse. Just wanted an opinion doctor said if it don’t feel hot or get worse it should be fine. Got enough problems didn’t wanna take a chance with it. My girlfriend thought it was a hickey but I told her that would have been a bad aim.
July 14, 2020 at 12:14 pm #1957133Is it smooth or raised compared to the surrounding skin? Does it feel warm like an infection? Is there any pain or discomfort?
Just going off that picture it looks like a bad bruise. But need more info.
July 14, 2020 at 12:23 pm #1957137It doesn’t hurt or feel warm but I can see a little spot in the middle where it was bit. There is no bump to speak of just little hard spot by the bite mark.
Snake ii’sPosts: 513July 14, 2020 at 12:31 pm #1957139You need a new doctor. I had a brown recluse bite two months ago and informed my DR I would not go for an office visit due to Chinese virus. they set up a phone evaluation, showed the bite site and got scrip for antibiotics.
July 14, 2020 at 12:35 pm #1957142I’d bet its a sting. May not have been a direct sting but got your clothes and it worked its way in and a piece of the stinger is likely still in the skin. May be too late but try making a thick paste of of baking soda and water and let it sit on the area. May help to draw out what is under the skin. If it continues to get worse definitely go see a doctor. Even just one of those express clinics found in drugstores and grocery stores possibly near you should be able to help.

Kinda bugs me honestly. Not like im just trying to screw him out of money. I just seen him 6 days ago for something else. Makes me wonder if he ever got message or just his nurse telling me that. He told me last week he does a lot of video stuff now don’t know why she wouldn’t give me that option.
July 14, 2020 at 1:34 pm #1957167Having it checked out if much less painful then have it being more then a little sting.
See a Doc Sir.
Tom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559July 14, 2020 at 1:45 pm #1957170That does not look like the tick bites I’ve had and in the case of Lymes carrying tick bite, I’d go so far as definitely not. Tick bites that are suspect for Lymes are bright red bullseye. If there’s a super red center about the size of a nickel surrounded by a 4″ to 6″ red area, go to the doc. Doesn’t necessarily have to have swelling, just look like a bullseye in a target.
What I see in the picture is more in line with a spider bite in my opinion.
July 14, 2020 at 1:59 pm #1957174Having had Lymes, I would want any suspect bite checked. I have also been told by a friend who is a Dr that the current Lymes test is significantly improved over the last version, so again I’d want it checked and if necessary a lab test. Don’t want to mess with Lymes! Way, way, way better for you if it gets treated early and often.

KeithPosts: 24July 14, 2020 at 2:03 pm #1957177Seems like every year I get bites similar to this, all within 6 inches of my pits or groin after being outdoors after sunset. I believe they are spider bites and have been thinking lately they are the little red spiders, maybe mites too. I treat the bites with gel benadryl to reduce swelling.
LOL a couple years back I went in for my DOT physical and that includes pulling down the pants for a hernia check. I warned the young female doing the inspection that I had some bug bites down there. Shoulda seen the look on her face….
July 14, 2020 at 2:41 pm #1957195Are you sure the bite mark is a bite mark or a breathing hole from a fly larvae. There was something like that on Tv just the other day. There was a grub growing right under the skin.
Great LakerPosts: 68July 14, 2020 at 2:47 pm #1957197I recently had a tick bite that I thought might have been lymes due to a swollen lymph node. I was able to schedule a video visit with my doctor same day, and scheduled got a lab blood test for a few days later (just to be certain) and he immediately put me on antibiotics for lymes. I agree with the “you need a new doctor” statement. You can never be too cautious when it comes to lymes.
July 14, 2020 at 3:12 pm #1957201I had a bite that looked similar to that years ago that was a confirmed deer tick. It wasn’t a bullseye. It was a deep red circle about the size of a racquetball. Lyme’s test came back negative but the Dr said it could still be Lyme’s or a skin infection. Tests at that time weren’t that accurate. They gave me antibiotics in either case.

Traditional Lyme test using current CDC guidelines is still approx 50% accurate. Far, far too many people go undiagnosed and lead miserable lives for months/years as a reality.
It may sound strange but the country furthest ahead in the Lyme battle is Germany. The Bavarian lab that tests for Lyme is now in the US and has a Minnesota location (Oakdale I believe). Name is Infectolab, and reportedly much better than the ineffective CDC guideline labs that Allina, Mayo, North Memorial, etc use.
If in doubt, go through Twin Cities Lyme Association… they use Infectolab as well.

Yes this.
I went in today. They wouldn’t even have me take the test after they seen the marking on my waste band (almost gone) and the symptoms. Been dealing with it the last 5 weeks on and off. Mostly on recently.
2 weeks of antibiotics was under $11.
The doctor told me the test results are not accurate at all. If they got it back as a negative they would still tell me to continue with taking the antibiotics. They even don’t agree with the results of the test.
Jim in WisconsinPosts: 64July 15, 2020 at 9:09 pm #1957600I would guess a SPIDER BITE! It should soon show a very small pusy core if it is a spider bite. Watch it closely.

July 20, 2020 at 2:30 pm #1958724Guess I need to get a blood test on 7-27. Was told tests taken within the first two weeks are very inaccurate. Don’t know why.
