I was wondering if anyone knew of any bait shops that sold bullheads for bait near the twin cities?

4 Seasons Sports in Red Wing “normally” has them. Call first as they sell fast and run out quickly.

Clarks gas station on old Shakopee road sells them but they go quick, I’ve heard Thorne brothers sells them and blue ribbon occasionally has them.

Definitely call ahead And find out when they deliver to Clarke…everyone else knows. Had many a disappointing trip with my nephew because they were sold out the day we planned on going.

There were also many weeks where the delivery was late by a day or two, so call the same day.

Unless thorne started carrying them this summer they did not in the past. Vados does have them occasionally but it is not to often.

They had them at Runnings in Monticello earlier this year. Give them a call.

I think Prior Lake Bait has them sometimes as well. As always, you may want to call first.

Someone was getting bullheads at Prior lake when I was in there on Sat. Not sure if they have then all the time or not. I’d give them a call. The one’s he had were rather large from what I saw. not sure how large you are looking for?

FYI – Prior Lake Bait just sent a FB update stating they got some bullheads in today. You can call them at 952-447-6096.

Isn’t the law <10″ for bullheads?

Any reason why they would limit the size?
I know it used to be 6″ but have never understood WHY?

Kind of like the 7′ cast net thing….The size restriction is retarded.

    FIFY

Although technically you could never measure anything to 10″ exactly. If you kept magnifying (zooming) into infinitely, a length it would eventually fall over or short of 10 inches. Therefore, there is no such thing as 10″ or units that measure for that matter.

    Poof! Mind blown.
    (Mine, not anyone elses)

    ..PS. We prefer castnet challenged.

Not that it makes much difference but we were allowed to use up to 7″ bullies rather then 6″.

The law read that bullies 7″ and under were considered minnows and different laws applied to them over the 7+” bullies.
    7″ / 7″+
    limit: 288 / 100
    Transport alive: Yes / NO
There was more, but that’s the important ones.

Limiting the new(er) law to 10″ bullies was not the biologist’s idea that were tasked with making a recommendation, if fact to them (and the environment) they felt there wasn’t a need to be a top end limit.

Somewhere in the offices of the DNR the 10″ limit was imposed.
As close to this change as I was, I didn’t see the need to ask were that came from…or maybe I did but didn’t get an answer.

Personally I think 10″ it too big for my use although we all know those fish will eat anything they can get their maw’s around. I’m a 7-8″ kinda guy with smaller preferred earlier in the season.

For the 7′ cast, I don’t have a clue. Steve DeMars was closest to that change. He might have an answer.

And it isn’t even buried in some subsection, it’s right here under general.

    Crickets. I am very disappointed.
