I have a 1996 Mercury 115 that was one my boat when I bought it used in 2003 or so. It seems like it’s in real good shape, and I haven’t put very many hours on it. I’m wondering if there’s a way I can take it somewhere and have them hook it up to something to find out how many hours are on it. Or if there’s a relatively cheap product I can purchase that will tell me. No real reason, just curious.

Does it have a Merc speedo and tach? The information is usually stored there in some brands.

The tach and speedometer are non-descript items that look like they are original equipment for the boat. I think the engine was also the original, but I don’t see any markings that would show these things are Mercury brand.

I’d call a Mercury dealer and ask them. There is an interface cable that can possibly display engine info on your Lowrance if you have a NMEA 2000 network installed.

A dealer will be able to connect to the control module on most models.
