Watching the local metro news for the first time in many months. I find it interesting to see the money being spent on light rail and fighting the virus. I don’t want to get into the pro’s & cons but it certainly is a lot of money. On the good side, it looks like you will get rain down there in the next few days.

Reef WPosts: 2734August 25, 2021 at 8:29 am #2056520I am not a big fan of the light rail being extended out to EP. Its a massive project that goes through a lot of residential neighborhoods. Although it does have a large chunk of federal funding devoted.
I am not sure why it needs to be extended specifically to Eden Prairie either. It makes sense to have it run between Mpls/St Paul/Bloomington (Airport, MOA), but out to the southwest metro has me baffled.
We’ll take the rain. As much as possible.
August 25, 2021 at 8:29 am #2056521Much of the light rail is federal grants….I don’t know why we need it but that’s a whole ‘nother topic.
I work in Eden Prairie where it ends/begins. Fascinating to watch the construction if nothing else.
At least the 35W corridor through downtown is almost done….
August 25, 2021 at 8:37 am #2056523they’ve been babbling about light rail from st cloud to the big city for a while too???????
August 25, 2021 at 8:41 am #2056524I work on the light rail alot. Keep that thing going.
As long as it doesn’t turn and come towards my house.August 25, 2021 at 8:42 am #2056525Watching the local metro news for the first time in many months. Fighting the virus?
August 25, 2021 at 9:54 am #2056553Light Rail. One of the very few mistakes Jesse made while in office.
August 25, 2021 at 10:41 am #2056567The Metropolitan Council is so over budget on the Light Rail it is insane. They need more money for the portion that is still not constructed and is way way behind schedule.
As for the virus, no. With the state mandate of vaccination of employees and soon to be contractors on state property, the money spent is going to increase way more. They are requiring employees and (soon) contractors to be vaccinated or tested once a week. The verbiage for on site contractors has not came out but is expected soon.

Northstar Rail is going the other direction, last I heard they were talking about shutting it down from Big Lake to the cities due to a lack of ridership, which would mean it won’t get extended to StC.
The SW Rail will be a boondoggle of epic proportions too imo. Cost overruns, and a decreasing downtown workforce are not a good recipe for success.
Snake ii’sPosts: 515August 25, 2021 at 11:09 am #2056574As for Covid, we currently have 73.2% of Americans and 74% of Minnesotans over the age of 18 that have received at least one shot of the vaccine. Even if we reached 100% there would still be peaks and valleys of cases, so the media and govt will continue to use case #’s to beat us into submission until enough people stand up and say enough is enough. We will have to learn to live with it now, or some point in the future imo.

I believe if you just go by the nightly news
Your faith in all mankind
Would be the first thing you loseHaven’t watched it myself for quite some time as well. The FG likes having it on the tv in the mornings, not a fan. They can keep their hysteria imo, I’ll just live out the rest of this narrative in peace.
August 25, 2021 at 4:35 pm #2056652I heard one of the reasons for the Southwest Light Rail is for inner city residents to have transportation to the jobs in the burbs.
August 25, 2021 at 4:47 pm #2056658Only 62% 1st dose and 53% fully vaccinated. Look at the southern states numbers.
August 25, 2021 at 5:22 pm #2056661I havent watched the news in a long time. And I seem to live a happy life without extreme worry.
These days you can really tell the crowd that hovers over the news and eats all the fear In. They usually try to tell you there opinions and why they are the only thoughts that make senseAugust 25, 2021 at 5:44 pm #2056665If someone’s opinions do not make sense to themselves, they will be hard pressed to try to convince others of the same.

greg christiansenPosts: 19August 25, 2021 at 6:58 pm #2056676Take the shot. Wont kill you and thus not me. Rain like crazy!! Wish it was up north too. We all need it badly Light rail? Not doing anything for me and most folks except costing money. Theres better bus usage and routes in Duluth than in the vaunted Twin Cities. So much for mass transit
August 25, 2021 at 7:02 pm #2056677Nobody is mentioning the fact that this virus is almost surely lab created… by the Chinese… with NIH funding… because ? It really is a viral attack on all of humanity. There should be consequences.
Light Rail, When Jesse he proposed it, it had a $60M price tag.
Oh yeah, also we had a good soaking the other day in normally Sunny Wailea !

greg christiansenPosts: 19August 25, 2021 at 7:26 pm #2056688“Take the shot” no thanks, I’ll pass
“light rail” no thanks, I’ll pass
“end to covid” yes please, but not likely. It’s endemic, you’ll start seeing those headlines if you haven’t already. Most real experts (read: actual virologists, scientists, and doctors who have received zero media attention) already know this fact regardless of political alignment.Gov’t sure seems to be enjoying micromanaging people’s lives though so don’t expect an actual “end” any time soon.
RipjiggenPosts: 11586August 25, 2021 at 7:35 pm #2056689AN EPIDEMIC is a disease that affects a large number of people within a community, population, or region.
A PANDEMIC is an epidemic that’s spread over multiple countries or continents.
ENDEMIC is something that belongs to a particular people or country.Extra butter please.

That is correct. Sars-Cov-2 is now endemic to the United States. It won’t be disappearing any time soon. It will occur at a predictable rate in the US population, especially in certain higher risk populations. Chicken pox is endemic amongst young children in the United States. The disease exists globally, but it is not a pandemic. However there could be a chicken pox pandemic, if an outbreak grew to some arbitrarily large and widespread size.
