One time, me and a buddy were riding single track trails on our dirtbikes, and I had slow speed a wipeout. I looked back to see if buddy saw what happened and there was a grouse like three feet away, drumming at me and dancing around. It wanted to be more than friends I think! Lol.
Later, at camp a guy told us that grouse are attracted to “thumper” motors and he would shoot lots of them riding his old three wheeler around as a kid

Have seen this couple times. First time was a coworker that had some video of a grouse that would come visit him while he was splitting wood. Other time we had one by our house that would follow us around. Eventually it would jump on your lap while we sat and was able to pet it some.It is a really fun and special experience.

There used to be a lot in SE MN.
    Not much now. Pheasants too.
Nephew had one that rode on the wheeler with him
They do like that thumping sound.

Pretty cool you got to get up close and personal!
